If I were Yao, I would voluntarily give up a portion of my salary just to keep Artest in Huston for a couple of years so that the Rockets will be competivie all the time. Yao makes enough money off court anyway, so a small cut doesn’t mean much to him, but it would mean a lot to Artest. Trust me, Artest is exactly the kind of player that Yao and T-Mac need to become a contender. Someone has to pass on the suggestion to Yao somehow, for his own good of course. I am sure Artest will make Yao and T-Mac look good and feel good for a long time.

I’m sure when asked, Yao would definitely consider sacrificing his pay. But T-Mac is still the highest paid Rocket at 21 mil. And he doesn’t have to contribute any to the Chinese sports federation.

The play union won’t allow that to happen if Yao or Tmac are willing to do so.
