I’m taking donations again
December 3rd, 2007by John
It has been about 3 1/2 years since I last took online donations. That’s around the time that I started putting Google Adsense ads on my site. I thought Adsense would generate enough revenue to do away with ads, but I was wrong. It’s barely enough to cover my hosting costs each month.
Recently many readers have expressed a desire to help me out given how much time I have put into the site over the past 5 1/2 years since its inception. One reader asked me today if it was possible to donate, so I went ahead and found some of my old code that allows you to donate using Paypal. And compared to the last time I took donations through Paypal, the good thing is now you can make donations using credit cards through the Paypal payment system (you don’t need a Paypal account).
I figured this is really the best way to collect money rather than making YaoMingMania a “walled garden” only viewable to people who pay a subscription fee.
The donate button is on the right side of the page, or you can donate using this button here:
Thanks again to all the readers who have expressed a desire over the last week to help me out financially, and for all your support and kind words!

How to donate if I’m located in Hong Kong?
Hi James, you can still donate through the “Donate” button if you have a credit or debit card, or a Paypal account. If you don’t have any of those, then I can email you my address where checks can be sent. You can email me at john [at] yaomingfanclub.com if you’d like to do that. Thanks! — John

John, I had thought about buying stuff from PamBee via your site but I held off because 1) the product wasn’t really needed and 2) the “kick back” you got in return would be small anyway.
I am glad you open up the paypal and I just sent my donation. As a long time Yao fan who started reading your site since the early days of Yao’s NBA career, I want to thank you for years of tireless dedication, excellent detailed analyses on Yao’s games, and for providing a place for us fans to sound off. You are a true inspiration.
Keep up the great work.
Hi Bob, Thanks so much for your donation! I received it and I’m flattered by your generosity! I’m really feeling loved here. I’d also like to thank other YaoMingManiacs who have donated since I posted the donate button yesterday, which includes Lester and James (I’m holding off on providing last names because I want to protect their privacy, if they wish for me to do so). However, I always thank each donator individually through email.

John,
I just sent my donation as well. I also want to thank you for maintaining this excellent website and for your superb analysis, which gets better all the time. After every Rockets game, I read several sources to get information about the game (I live in Hong Kong and only limited number of Rockets’ games are broadcast ), but I always leave the Yaomingmania site for last — save the best for last, as they say.
Hi James, thanks for your donation! I really appreciate the kind words and the financial backing! — Thanks, John
