Yi ready to live American Dream
April 11th, 2007by John
Here’s a link to a good article that describes the latest with Chinese player Yi Jianlian, who is expected to be a high first-round draft pick in the NBA draft this summer.
It looks like Yi will be picked so high in the draft, the Rockets would not have much of a chance to get him (if they’re interested) unless they trade for that pick. My bet is that the Rockets’ top priority in the draft will be to find a top-notch point guard instead.

i am looking at the future of yi, his team has a few good players, and just got a new coach( http://www.nba.com/coachfile/larry_krystkowiak/index.html?nav=page ), lookng at his position (not sure he is a PF or a SF?, small too tall, not enough range, power, too skinny), only Charlie Villanueva http://www.nba.com/playerfile/charlie_villanueva/index.html?nav=page poses a treat to yi as a rookie,
Brian Skinner his PPG is low, probably only play mostly defense. Bobby Simmons is SF, which is not bad. Ersan Ilyasova , Damir Markota , are all rookies this year.
after all, if ji is getting his job done, with Earl Boykins (5′5″), Michael Redd on his wing, ji might get a chance if he can proves to coach and staff, that the team can build a strategy around him. However, this is a team that doesn’t have too much talent and weapons to against the real big guns, so yi first 1 or 2 years might just get his statistic up and wait for a better team to start his career, i would like to see him with LeBron, Kobe, or Steve Nash, that would be fun, but it seems like yi isn’t that type of player that the team can build a core around him, otherwise, his pick would be top 3 in nba draft.
i really want to see a new coach for rox, just the same roster, but different game plan, rox is good at defensive team, just needs more scoring options, i rather see a mideoker defenser but a top notch scorer, rather than a top defenser but can score at all. again, the freaking pg position, shane, juwan, and chuck are all pretty good supporting casts, regradless their scoring ability are not too high but good enough, it is the PG position is not hooking up all the links, the weakest and broken link in rox keep losing mysth. well, the coach is obsviously the key of all the problem resources, lack of utilizing players talent, and sculpt player from one into another dream-like players in his own head, a great coach has to be able to cook a good (not great) meal by using whatever he has, and cant say since i dont have those elements thus i cant cook a good meal i like. besides, jvg got a most talented players in the league, and cant produce a record that on western top 2 or 3 in 3 years. enough is enough, i say.
cheers
