I just heard an interview sound byte from Del Harris where they asked him who really is taller Yao or Shawn Bradley since he coaches both of them.

Harris said, "well we've measured Bradley before in Dallas and without shoes on he's 7'5 3/4" (which the interviewer said is 2.28m).

This makes sense because the NBA uses players heights in shoes and always rounds down even if it's 3/4 of an inch, so if Bradley is 7'5 3/4" without shoes, and had a 1 inch shoe on when drafted he would have measured 7'6 3/4" with shoes on, which they then round down to 7'6" which would be his official listed NBA height.

Then Harris said "we were curious about Yao's height so we measured him when he was in Dallas and he came out to 7'5 1/2" without shoes on (which the interviewer said is 2.27m).

Yao's draft measurements were 7'5" without shoes on and 7'6 1/4" with shoes. When Yao got to Houston for his rookie year he was measured at 7'5" without shoes on and 7'6 1/2" with shoes on. Again NBA heights are listed with shoes on.

Harris said Yao told them he grew half an inch since the begining of his rookie year because at that time he was 7'5" without shoes on, and Harris and their coaching staff measured him at 7'5 1/2" without shoes on.

So anyway, Bradley's official NBA height is 7'6 3/4", and Yao's is 7'6 1/2" (Both 7'6" for NBA listings).

Without shoes on Yao is 7'5 1/2" and Bradley is 7'5 3/4", so without shoes Bradley is 1/4" taller than Yao.

Yao has grown half an inch since the beginning of his rookie season.

So this answers it both Yao and Bradley officially are 7'6" by NBA standards, but without shoes on Bradley is 1/4" taller than Yao.

So now we know exactly how tall Yao and Bradley are.

So we shouldn't be saying Yao is 7'5" anymore, we can say either 7'5 1/2" or 7'6".

And even though Yao is still 1/4" shorter than Bradley he's still growing apparently so who knows maybe he will catch him.

Yao doesn't need to be taller than Bradley. He just need to have longer wingspan and get stronger and better stamina.

Well Bradley's wingspan is 7'6" and Yao's is 7'5" so he won't be getting a longer wingspan.

Who really cares. They're both around the same height and they're both abnormally tall.

Why are we even mentioning Bradley's name in the same sentence as Yao's?

so let me get this straight -- what you're trying to say is, yao is 7'6", right?

in other words, he is no longer 7-5, he is 7-6.

put another way, he is now one inch taller.

and just to put this into context, he is 1/4" shorter than shawn bradley.

to sum things up, yao is 7 feet six inches.

am i understanding you correctly?

(sorry dude, just messing with you -- it's good to know he's still getting taller).

I disagree. Yao is only 22. As he matures physically he will get
broader in the shoulders, his chest get bigger, and his wingspan
will probably increase another 1-3 inches. In my own case,
after I had reached my adult height (5'11"), my wingspan
was the same as my height. However, in time my wingspan
increased so that now it is just over 6' while my height has
stayed the same. Expect Yao's chest size, wingspan, and
overall to increase in strength as he matures physically.

A person is around 1/2 an inch taller in the morning than in the evening
so to get the exact height of Yao
right now.

You need to check on what part of the world Yao is presently located.
Whether he just had a good night's sleep.

seriously who cares about Yao's extremely exact measurement.

wtf? wingspan is based on your skeletal structure. even if your shoulders get bigger that's not gonna affect how long your fingers are. that's like saying, "as you get older and your belly stretches, and as you put on weight you will get taller."

men are like bitches when it comes to height. they're all liars

as a rule of thumb you need to acclimate yourself with how males in america determine their actual height.

you round up then add an inch. so a guy who says he's 6'1" is probably 5'11" and change

here's a handy chart

if a guy is 5'9" .... he says he's "about 6' tall"
if a guy is 5'10" .. he says he's "about 6' tall"
if a guy is 5'11" .. he says he's "over 6 feet"
if a guy is 6' even ...then he's "6'2""

listings in sports is totally unreliable. coaches will inflate their roster just because they dont want to admit their 2 guard is under 6 feet or that their center is 6'4"

I had a volleyball coach in college who wouldn't list anyone as being under 5'10" it was pretty funny. guys the exact same height were listed as 6'2" and 6'4" depending on how skinny they were and what he could get away from at a distance
