Its not a bash on Yi, I understand with Wzz on the court they need a legit 5 who can post down low in order to kick it out to Wzz for perimeter shots. But Yi has always been more effective as a 4 along side Yao or Bogut. Yi gets taken out of the game when he plays back to the basket and get smothered every time.
Naaaaaah, the only time Yi Jianlian showed some glimpse of his brillance was the last 3 minutes in 4Q, when he played as power forward alongside Wang Zhizhi.
For most of the game, Yi was asked to play as 5, and partnered with Ding Jinhui or Zhang Kai on 4, when Wang Zhizhi was not on the court.
Let's face it......Yi played very very poor last night. His form and condition has yet to be retireved. Moreover, he played most of the time as centre, which he had proved that he was not and is not going to be a great low post centre, as he had not yet accustomed to that role, skill wise, and not strong body wise. |

Just finished watching the 1st China/Croatia game. Here are some of my thoughts:
GOOD
1) Wang Zhi Zhi, despite all his weakness, was the most potent offensive weapon on the floor for CNT.
2) I actually thought Sun Yue look alright out there this game. He seemed to carry the ball with some assertiveness, found his teammates (who all missed Alot), and made the couple shots he took (although that dunk he got should NOT have been an 'and 1' in my opinion). He did look like he had about a foot and a half height advantage on the opposing pg though, but hopefully this was not just and anomaly, and he can continue to play better.
BAD
1) Yi Jianlian just does not have the strength to be a solid consistent post threat right now. I mean he's a PF that doesn't have good finish around the basket. His shot seems to get altered so easily to me. I hate to rag on the guy, in fact I would LOVE for him to be the next Kevin Garnett, but unless he adds a bunch of strength and a bunch of solid go to post moves, I'm really not that high on him to be honest. He really does need a Yao Ming to play off of. I sure hope he proves me wrong, because I DO want CNT to do well at the Olympics.
2) CNT as a team really shot the ball poorly from the field this game.
3) Ugly Free throws again too.
4) Again with the refs. I'm not saying theres anything 'fishy' going on but, I honestly feel that it would be to CNTs benefit to have at least ONE non-Chinese ref the games.
Summary
I think Jonas was really just testing the waters with his players this game, seeing how Yi and Zhi Zhi' s conditions were, and trying some player combinations with them. As far as I could tell, Zhang Kai, Du Feng, Chen Jianghua, and Liu Xiaoyu, didn't play at all.
Later guys. |

| The CNT's movements around the court is poor. They settle a lot of jumpshots, almost no cutting, very few picks, slow, I don't see a chance with the current line up. Their offense is not creative at all. They don't have a player that can take over, so defense on them is easy for the other team. They can't fastbreak, they can't post. It's ugly. I'm sure Yao can give them a good lift, but they haven't practice with him to work on the entry passes. |

| Yi had 18pts/13rbs/2ast/2stl in the latest game if I'm reading the boxscore correctly. |

Quote:
SHANGHAI, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Yi Jianlian had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead China to a strong fourth-quarter comeback to beat Croatia's second-string national team 76-66 here on Saturday.
It was China's second victory over the visitors, who lost the on Thursday in Yantai, Shandong province.
Yi, who entered the NBA last year, helped by teammates Wang Shipen's 17 points, and ex-NBA player Wang Zhizhi and Chen Jianghua, each scored 12 for China, who played without injured NBAAll-Star Yaoming.
China took control early, leading by 10 points with a minute left in the first and by as many as 18 before taking a 38-26 advantage into the second half.
Croatia fought back, outscoring the host 10-4 to draw within three points 66-63, but Yi's three points from foul lines and Chen's four to make it 73-65.
The teams will play again in Jiyuan, Henan province, on Monday to finish their friendly tour.
So it looks like Yi bounced back with a strong game. If anybody has a link to the game could you please post it? Thanks. |
