Quote: It might have been the best $25,000 Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy ever spent. He complained madly about the way the officials were calling games against Yao Ming. Specifically , he complained because he felt Alonzo Mourning and others were getting away with felonious assault against him.
“It just irritated me,” Van Gundy told reporters. “The whole game irritated me the way he was officiated. 'There was no contact,' yet there was blood streaming down his arm. They tell you there's no contact and you're watching blood flow. Unless he's so self-hurtful he's taking his own nails to his skin and ripping it open to draw attention to himself, you have to ask yourself, 'What am I seeing? Why can't what I'm seeing and he's obviously feeling and seeing be seen?'”
Naturally, he draws a fine from the league. Then the next game, against the Pistons at The Palace, Yao gets to the free throw line 20 times, tying his career-high.
“It’s kind of hard to defend a guy who is 7-5 and 330 pounds when you can’t touch him,” deadpanned Coach Flip Saunders.
Even though their rep is bad, this is the truth. It obviously paid off. Noone can ***** about how much JVG sticks up for his players. |

| Good to see Yao getting some respect and getting to the foul line. As much as people seem to complain about JVG, you're right, he really does seem to stick up for his players. Not the first time he's called people out on the officating of Yao either. Good man. |

Hi, everybody!!! Anyone remember me? I just wanted to put my two cents in on this. Once again, JVG shows us that he may be a funny-lookin' little guy, but he's got the heart of a warrior. Thanks, VanGundy, for protecting your players! I don't know why Stern keeps fining him for pointing out the truth... all it does is make Van Gundy look like a hero, and himself a big, honking donkey.
BTW, I promised xraygirl that the next time I visited, I'd tell everyone hi for her. So... "Hi from xraygirl!!!" Love you guys! |

I'm pretty new here, but I'll say hi anyways, so "Hi xraymom and xraygirl!" Glad to see you around. |

Xraymom,

Thanks, OOLONG! Been a while. Just thought I'd see what y'all were up to, now that the season is really off the ground. I've got plenty to say about it, too!!! |

Quote: "I'm going to refrain from talking about Yao right now," Van Gundy said. "I would have to tell the whole story. ... Instead of telling the story in parts, I'm going to stay away from the subject. His name usually involves a deduction of my money."

| Welcome back to the one and only xraymom and xraygirl. I remember reading your posts. You're one of the original contributors to YMM, a true Yao Ming fan. We missed your opinions. |
