Next. Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks, who GM is the uncle of our DuckCoachNephew.

Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks could be the only team in CBA that had the MINIMUM change in their roster.

Other than waiving the pretty useless Sun Mingming and that Men Wai retired, other than promoting a few of their young players from the junior team, they had just made 1 major addition to their roster, but retained the same squad that surprisingly dethrone the perennial champion Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers to win the 2012 CBA Championship.

YEAH, they kept their 2 expats: Stephon Marbury and Randolph Morris.

And Beijing Jinyu Capital Steels Ducks added a new nuclear weapon over the summer: Li Gen, the MVP of 2012 CBA All Stars.

After 2 successful seasons at Qingdao Double Star Eagles after leaving Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks that saw Li Gen rise to become the #2 highest scorer amongst Chinese players (second to Wang Zhizhi), Li Gen was the hottest property on the market over the summer, because he was sort of a free agent, and not tied to any provinicial and municipal sports bureaus. Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks signed him up at a staggering RMB 3 Million.

So Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks kept their core team that won last season's championship; it is anticipated their young players Fang Shuo, Chen Shidong, Wang Xiaohui, Zhai Xiaochuan, Yin Tianren, Chang Lin, Ji Jie, Zhu Yanxi with 1 to 2 years CBA experience with them will further grow and develop under the leadership of Stephon Marbury.

The full roster of Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks is as follows:

  • Stephon Marbury
  • Lee Hsueh-lin (MVP of 2012 CBA Final)
  • Fang Shuo
  • Chen Shidong
  • Li Gen
  • Chen Lei
  • Wang Xiaohui
  • Xie Libin
  • Yin Zhong (rookie promoted from junior team)
  • Xia Yutong (rookie promoted from junior team)
  • Zhai Xiaochuan
  • Yin Tianren
  • Ji Jie
  • Chang Lin
  • Han Chongkai
  • Zhu Yanxi (2011~12 CBA Rookie of the Year)
  • Randolph Morris
  • Bai Yue (rookie promoted from junior team)

Xinjiang's roster is too old. Basically, Xinjiang's rising is relying on Bateer, former Beijing center. Now Bateer is getting older and older. Another center Tang Zhengdong seems in declining too. Xirelijiang has no improvement.

So I don't think they are a threat for Beijing.

Bateer and Tang zhengdong should be come coaches for the young big players, especially Bateer who has NBA experience and NBA championship ring, that Yao Ming does not have.

Bateer - NBA champion 2003
Sun Yue - NBA champion 2009

After being dethroned by Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks, the perennial CBA Champion Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers seemed eager to regain the Championship.

They had signed back Yi Jianlian after a not-so-successful NBA career.

They had promoted Gao Shang, the up-and-coming rising new star into the senior team from their junior team.

They were at one point close to signing Gilbert Arenas, but negotiation fell through in the final stage that Gilbert Arenas will not be coming.

Instead they signed 2 ex NBA players:

  • Derrick Caracter, the 24-year-old 6ft 9 ex LA Lakers power forward
  • Terrence Williams, the 25-year-old 6ft 6 ex team mate of Yi Jianlian at New Jersey Nets
They kept most of their Chinese players, but made a very strange move over the summer.

They shipped out 6 of their young and promising players to 2 other CBA teams:

  • Wang Zheng and Zhang Hanjun permanently transferred to Zhejiang Guangsha Lions.
  • Ren Junwei and Ju Mingxin (permanent transfer), Wang Pu and Zhu Xuhang (on 2-year loan) to Foshan Draglion. Ju, Wang and Zhu are U19 national team players and touted to be of talents and potentials.
The roster of the Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers for the new season is as follows (May not be complete, as there is only 14 players):

  • Chen Jianghua
  • Liu Xiaoyu
  • Shi Hongfei
  • Wang Shipeng
  • Zhu Fangyu
  • Zhou Peng
  • Gao Shang
  • Ren Junfei
  • Dong Hanlin
  • Li Yuanyu
  • Su Wei
  • Yi Jianlian
  • Derrick Caracter
  • Terrence Williams

Let's see how fast Zhai Xiaochuan can grow this year. He's the future SF of CNT.

Li Gen also has potential to become a CNT member. He's discarded from CNT list this summer probably b/c he's too slow for his height. He needs to lose some weight and get quicker as a 6'5 guy.

Men Wei is sadly retired although he's only 28. Actually he's one of the few native Beijingers in this team.

As I said, their post players are still weak. Ji Zhe and Morris are PF and C but they are pretty short. They will be destroyed by Yi Jianlian.

There's another kid called Chang Lin, who is good at dunking and played in NCAA for 2 yrs before. They want to train him to take the role of PF/C. However, he had a bone fracture in the summer during practice in San Francisco and is still under recovery. He's not very tall also, around 6'9.

This team does collect a bunch of kids with potential to enter CNT. Except Zhai Xiaochuan and Li Gen, Zhu Yanxi and Chang Lin also have the opportunity. It's amazing they suddenly add some many talents only in one year.
