Yao Ming had a very busy Sunday yesterday.

He left home early and travelled from Shanghai to Suzhou and appeared in the campus of Suzhou University to participate in the the roundtable of the 3rd China Basketball Culture Forum, jointly hosted by the Basketball Management Cntre and the Cultural & Development Centre of State Sports General Administration and the Suzhou University.

The forum was attended by alot of officials from various departments of the State Sports General Administration, former CBA commissioner Li Yuanwei, coaches, and professors from various sport universities from Suzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

The theme for the forum was how to cultivate Chinese basketball culture as well as how to bring basketball closer to normal life.

During his speech at the Roundtable, Yao Ming commented that basketball culture needs long years of fermentation and accumulation. It's easy to physically build museums or Hall of Fame for basketball, but until people has a basketball Hall of Fame or museum in their hearts, basketball culture had no real roots.

As to how to bring basketball into our normal life, Yao Ming admitted that even now that he had retired, he still felt the itch and urge to play basketball once in a while, no matter how busy he is in his university studies, commercial or philanthropist activities. That itch and urge for playing basketball is not because he was a professional basketball player for years, but it is mainly out of his love and interest of the sports, which to him, should be the driving force. As far as he is concerned, he does not think basketball should only be limited to be just competition; it should become a means of drilling and training youngsters to become a way of life.

In his view, Big Yao thought China's state sports systems is just too narrow; Sports, including basketball, should not be just confined to winning and medalling in major international tournament; sports is not an isolated concept, but is closely related with all aspects of life. Sports should become a carrier of culture, friendship, communication, trust, tenacity, team concepts etc.

The roundtable was wrapped up shortly after noon, and Yao Ming hastily had his lunch, and then rushed back to Shanghai for the evening game between Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks and Liaoning Jiebao.

Yao Ming recently received an interview and became the Cover Story of the January 2012 issue of the Chinese version of GQ (Gentlemen's Quarterly) Magazine.

I have yet to find the transcript of that interview which was about his migration/transition from a professional basketballer to a father, university student, philanthropist, a basketball team owner and a successful enterpreneur.

But I have scooped the photos taken in that interview from the Internet.

ENJOY !!!!
:P :D  8)
