And right after his last class on Major Issues Study in Chinese Contemporary History, Yao Ming threw a press conference in the university at 18:00 pm, informing the public details about his studies.
He had enrolled into Antai College of Economics and Management, and will major in Economics. He will require 150 credits to graduate.
When asked whether there will be a conflict in his roles as an owner of a basketball team, a husband and father and an university student, Big Yao said there should not be a conflict; he said there are so many working people pursuing evening or part time studies. He said to him, it will be just a matter of balancing priorities and time management.
He said it is not about getting a degree; to him, continuous learning is an attitude, and learning cannot be just confined to a single subject; he said there is no courses or degree on offer on how to manage a professional basketball team. He just has this very strong desire to learn and keep enriching himself. He said theory and knowledge is fundamental to everything in life. He just wants to return to university which he had never the chance to attend while he was young.
Finally, he pleaded the media to leave him some breathing room/space, and he hoped this press conference is once-and-for-all and that the media/press reporters will leave him alone and never come to Shanghai Jiaotong University to cover his life as a university student, as he does not want to disturb/disrupt normal campus life of other students. If he recovers enough he will play again, just like what Michael Jordan did.

LOL !!!!
The latest and hotest news of Yao Ming over the past week is NOT ABOUT
- He participated in the training and attended the Fifth Session of the Eleventh CPPCC Shanghai meeting in his capacity as a member of the CPPCC of the Shanghai municipality.
or
- He acted as China Panda Ambassador to launch China's new Giant Panda rehabilitation project and the release of 6 "teenager" pandas into Chengdu Panda Valley in Dujiangyan Research Center of Giant Panda Breeding and Rehabilitation.
It was about Yao Ming FLUNKING his final exam in Advanced Mathematics in the first semester of his university study in Shanghai Jiaotong University. It was rumored that he only got 38 points in the final exam, and he may have to resit the exam sometimes later. Lots of interest and heated discussions EVERYWHERE in Chinese sports newspapers, websites and forums.
http://en.radio86.com/news/slam-flunk-y ... -math-exam Slam flunk: Yao Ming toppled by advanced math exam 12.01.2012 13:16 Retired Chinese NBA legend Yao Ming has been in the news in China for one of his latest and more dubious achievements - failing the notorious Advanced Math exam at university.
Yao has been studying at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since last October, reading subjects including finance, administration and journalism, with the Chinese public closely following his academic record.
Now, a rumor has surfaced concerned Yao's failure of the dreaded advanced mathematics examination.
According to the rumor, Yao got '38' in the final exam of the semester in Advanced Mathematics. The full score is 100, with the pass mark set at 60. Universally fearedAdvanced mathematics is an irritant to many at Chinese universities. The course is almost universally compulsory, and is popular source of complaint even after graduation. For this reason, many in China had awaited Yao's results in this subject with baited breath. Several days ago, Yao appeared on a TV show to talk about his studies. Despite the host's persistent questioning, Yao refused to discuss his advanced math exam score.
However, Yao did give this insight: "I can deal with the other subjects, but the mathematics is really a headache". Many it seems share his pain.Although Yao refused to talk about the scores, people believe he did fail. Comments online says that Yao's fail proves that 'no matter how great you are, you will still have trouble with Advanced Mathematics.'
Those who suffered from the scourge of mathematics in university should feel much better now - and at least their failures were not circulated as widely as Yao's.

If it is true, it is justifiable for big Yao. He has just too many obligations to take care of. Time management is nit an easy thing to do for him. Besides, math is a subject that requires long time cumulation of knowledge.

I had often been criticized and teased by posters on this forum as Yao Ming's biggest homer as I often stepped out to defend Big Yao.
But now I realized Erick Zhang Mingji is Yao Ming's biggest homer.
Erick Zhang Mingji just did a VERY SILLY THING and SPOILED ALL THE FUN coming out to dismiss that the rumor of Yao Ming failing his Advanced Mathematics in his final exam at Shanghai Jiaotong University was tall tales.
WHY he had to do that is well beyond me.
Actually he did not have to do that.
BIG DEAL that Yao Ming flunked his exam, cos as Yao Ming correctly pointed out it's NOBODY ELSE BUSINESS. And he went back to university is to pursue his continued learning and it is NOT about getting a degree.
Besides his rebuttal just spoiled all the fun. Big Yao is not God. Given he had never received formal education in secondary school, and also the multiple obligations that he had to take care of, REGARDLESS OF HOW hard he studied, it's NATURAL that he would encounter difficulties in Advanced Mathematics, and therefore flunking Advanced Maths is NOT A SHAME OR DISGRACE.
Yao manager dismisses maths exam failure rumors as tall tales

YAO Ming's management team has denied rumors that the rookie Shanghai Jiao Tong University student failed his final exam in advanced mathematics.
Claims circulating online said the former All-Star player with the United States National Basketball Association failed the maths exam - scoring 38 out of 100.
But Zhang Mingji, director of Team Yao, said over the weekend that Yao had passed the exam, achieving a satisfactory result.
However, he did not disclose Yao's actual score.
"Yao had three courses this year, advanced mathematics, English and history, and did not fail the maths," Zhang told reporters. "This has been verified by the college."
"However, Yao believes his exam marks are a private matter and does not want to disclose them," said Zhang.
"But it was definitely not 38," he added.
The 2.27-meter celebrity seemed to understand the public's curiosity over his first college grade, comparing it with his debut in NBA.
"Do you still remember the first game I played in NBA? I wasn't good in the game, which also caused a lot of discussion in the media," Yao commented.
"Isn't it the same situation now? I don't have to clarify. It's my own thing. I haven't been in a classroom for a long time and it's normal for people to think I have trouble studying."
Although Yao did not reveal his grade, he admitted his weakness in maths.
"Most of the subjects are OK, but advanced mathematics did trouble me a lot," Yao said.
"It requires strong logic and systematical knowledge and it's hard to pick up if you lack a background in the subject."
"Advanced mathematics for me is the most difficult subject in the moment," Yao added. "But I believe I'll make progress every day through my efforts and those of my teachers."
Zhang, who has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago, said Yao is a dedicated student and often asks him questions about linear algebra.
"Although his knowledge base was not very strong, Yao's very smart and has never been lazy," Zhang said.
