Last night (October 11, 2011), there was this 2011 China Top Ten Awards For Sports Personalities held in Xiangshan of Ningbo.
This is the 6th time the China Top 10 Award is held since 2004, and the award is the equivalent of the prestious Laureus Award presented out to world class athletes. As with Laureus, China Top Ten promotes the use of sport as a tool for social change and celebrates sporting excellence.
Laureus World Sports Academy Chairman Edwin Moses and Laureus Ambassador Robert Baker were alos there at the award ceremony as Special Guests of Honour to present awards at the China Top Ten awards ceremony.

A total of 12 awards were presented last night at the China Top Ten award ceremony, with the winners to a great extent chosen by an internet vote by Chinese sports fans.
The list of winners (highlighted in red) with the nominees are as follows:
Sportsman of the Year
Lin Dan (badminton), Liu Xiang (track and field), Chen Yibing (gymnastics), Liao Hui(weightlifting), Wang Hao (table tennis)
Sportswoman of the Year
Li Na (tennis), Zhao Jing (swimming), Guo Yan (table tennis), Wang Yihan (badminton), Wu Minxia (diving)
Newcomer of the Year (man + woman)
Sun Yang (swimming), Liang Wenhao (winter event), Zhang Chenglong (gymnastics), Qiu Bo (diving), Zhang Jike (table tennis), Tang Yi (swimming), Ye Shiwen (swimming), Guan Xin (basketball), Ding Ning (table tennis), Chen Xiaoting (weightlifting)
Breakthrough of the Year
Sun Yang (swimming), Chen Xiping (throwing), Guo Xiaomin (throwing), Zhong Qixin (rock climbing), Li Ping (weightlifting), Liao Hui (weightlifting)
Team of the Year
China Table Tennis Men's Team, China Synchronised Swimming Team, China Gymnastics Men's Team, China Badminton Team, China Wrestling Women's Team
Coach of the Year
Li Yongbo (badminton), Liu Guoliang (table tennis), Sun Haiping (track and field), Wang Haibin (fencing), Yao Bin (winter event)
Pair of the Year
Shen Xue /Zhao Hongbo (figure skating), Jiang Wenwen /Jiang Tingting (synchronized swimming), Wu Minxia /He Zi (diving), Pang Qing /Tong Jian (figure skating), Zhang Lin /Sun Yang /Jiang Haiqi /Li Junqi (swimming)

It was unfortunate that the 3 top award-winning and most popular athletes, Lin Dan, Li Na and Liu Xiang were not personally there to receive their award.
Li Yongbo, the badminton national coach, recieved the award on behalf for Lin Dan while Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's coach, recieved the award on behalf for Liu Xiang.
