Detailed report from Jonathen Feigen on Yao Ming's first team practice/scrimmage yesterday.

ACTUALLY, it's NOT Yao's first 5 vs 5.

He had been playing 5 VS 5 for past 10 days already.

Yao wearing a weight vest? Or is that some fancy sports tech?

It's a weight vest in order to help him to get into a better shape.

The Rox held an open practice for the fans today before their 6:30 p.m. flight to China (my bad, I meant Austin.) They sectioned off 1/2 of the arena for fans to sit and watch. By far, Yao Ming received the loudest applause from the fans.

After the introduction of players, the rookies had to participate in a game of musical chairs. Patrick Patterson won. Then the subs participated in a scrimmage game. Since this was their 2nd day of training, the players half-assed it. At halftime, Luis Scola & a fan from the stands played a game of horse. Scola won easily. Then the subs played the 2nd half of their scrimmage. No player really stood out.

Chase Budinger didn't participate in the scrimmage, but he was shooting from a secondary court that they had set up on the Toyota Center floor. His injured ankle didn't seem to affect his jump shots.

Here are a few pix that I took from my camera phone.

Photos at yesterday's team practice/scrimmage open to fans and media.

Yao Ming and his team mates were laughing their @$$ off from the bench, when Luis Scola tried but screwed up his 180% Tomahawk dunk; the basketball just did not co-operate but bounced back from the rim.

Naaaaaaah, TheRoxRedGlare did not know what he was talking about. (I guess it was a typo).

NO WAY
the Rockets are leaving for China now.

They are leaving for Austin where the preasons camp will be held in the next 6 days before they start their preseason game.

They will not leave for China until completing 4 preseason games with Orlando Magic (on October 5), San Antonio Spurs (October 7), Indiana Pacers (October 9) and Cleveland Cavaliers (October 10) (all in Toyota Centre), before travelling to China for 2 games with New Jersey Nets in Beijing (October 13) and in Guangzhou (October 16).
