In conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston and iTalk Global Communications, Inc., Yao Ming hosted its 2010 Yao Ming Foundation Charity Gala at the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston last night (Sunday, March 28 ).
300 Houston celebrities, including Houston Rockets owner, Leslie Alexander, CEO Tad Brown, Yao Ming's agent Bill Duffy, and coaching staff and players (Luis Scola, David Andersen, Jared Jeffries, Chase Budinger, Hilton Armstrong, Jermaine Taylor) and 30+ media were there on the occasion, and therefore guaranteed Yao Ming Foundation will at least raise US$ 150,000 (at US$ 500 per ticket) on the occasion, not including various items put on auction.
Uncle Mutombo also showed up on the occasion to support Yao Ming.
During the banquet, Yao Ming announced that his Foundation had completed 3 Project Hope schools in Sichuan back in 2009, and 3 other schools will be completed within the year. He said the fund raised from the Charity Gala will go to rebuild Houston area school playground equipment destroyed by Hurricane Ike, as well as provide initial funds for building a permanent MFAH gallery dedicated to the Arts of China.

Also don't forget to view all these photos from Netease/163.com. If the size of the photos are NOT THAT BIG , I would have probably cut and paste them here. http://sports.163.com/photoview/00MK0005/52497.html#p=1

FINALLY managed to scoop this photo of Yao Ming acting as an assistant to Ming Tsai on the demonstration of how to prepare a Peking duck. Yao Ming was asked to slice a piece of duck breast. Ming Tsai then showed the audience 2 pieces of duck breast, one sliced by Big Yao and the other prepared by himself; Ming Tsai quipped: "This is Yao Ming's breast on my left; and this is my breast on the right. 左边是姚明的胸,右边是我的胸."
LOL !!!!
The professional-sports-meets-high-art scenario played out to a cocktail-attired audience that reached close to 350 and included such notables as Dikembe Mutombo, Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Port Commissioner Elyse Lanier, former mayor Bob Lanier and the glamorous Diane Yoo, Miss Asia USA 2008.

Believe it or not. It was reported on Chinese website that originally Team Yao approached White House to inquire the availability of President Barack Osama; and Obama's staff initially indicated that President Obama might have some free time end March; therefore, the event had been changed from January 30 to March 28.
It turned out that President Obama was engaged on March 28 and could not come as the honorable guest to the Charity Gala.
