If he's cleared to play, I'm all for him testing it out in an exhibition or preseason game. From a rehab standpoint, it's much more ideal than throwing him right into the regular season games. Test him in a preseason game and guage how well he does, rather than throw him right into the fire.

Besides, it gives a bit of a buffer for his stamina to catch up.
Yao should take more time off to make sure he is 100% fully healthy. I hope he's not rushing it like he did with 08 Olympics.

I don't think any of his fans should grudge him rushing it a bit from his rehabilitation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

SURE he was NOT 100%.

But as he had said it so many times in past interviews, to be able to play in an Olympic representing his country, particularly one that was hosted by his own motherland had been his life long dream.

He worked his @r$e off back from his injury; he gave his all for his country in those games in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, cos it was a once-in-a-life-time thing for him.

No Dwight Howard isn't a rookie. However he does have a point in that Howard may not even play or if he does play, he will play sparingly. It's doubtful that Yao himself will see too many minutes. Why risk him during the pre-season when he has had a history of breaking down due to wear and tear during the season.

If Yao is cleared to play, he'll play. Not least because he needs to play into shape and because the INTENSITY of preseason is less and thus a good way to get back into shape after a summer (or in Yao's case 15 month) layoff/

What is this
However he does have a point in that Howard may not even play or if he does play, he will play sparingly

you want to substantiate anything you post or you want to just post guesses that "may or may not be correct." in the past howard has played almost entire preseason games.

if you knew anything, the reason why people get pulled from preseason with an eye in injuries is precisely because THEY ARE NOT IN SHAPE and thus more likely to get injured, not because preseason itself is inherently dangerous. Players who cant pace themselves or show up i bad shape like Mcgrady get their minutes limited.

If Yao is cleared, he'll get his minutes in preseason. It's the perfect way for him to get back into the flow and also work on his conditioning. His minutes will start small but as much as he can play he'll play. the more he's able to play preseason means the less chance Yao will get injured due to bad conditioning during the regular season when games mean something and coach has less leeway to pull or play players

what's he doing sitting in the stands with the fans, and that chair looks like a kids chair he's sitting on. Yao could injure himself sitting on a chair so small.
