For the second consecutive time (after the 2007 FIBA America Championship), Luis Scola was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2009 FIBA America Championship.
Even though Argentina did not win the championship (they came in 3rd), its captain, Luis Scola was playing AWESOME throughout the tournament!!! He was the top scorer in the championship, with 23.3 points per game, and was the unquestioned leader of the Argentinians, a team that was severely under-manned without 4 to 5 of its regulars: Manu Ginobili, Fabricio Oberto, Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni...... He almost single-handedly led his team to the Final of the championship, only losing 85 ~ 80 narrowly to Puerto Rico in the semi final, having already secured one of the 4 qualification slots for next year's 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. (Brazil, the eventual champion, Puerto Rico and Canada secured the other 3 slots)
Congratulation to Luis for a great job done !!!! |
