The very first of Project Hope primary school donated by Yao Ming Foundation is up and running !!!
It's called Xue Yan ~ Yao Foundation Hope Primary School, 雪艳――姚基金希望小学 and situated in Guangyuan of Sichuan.
The foundation laying ceremony was done when Yao Ming visited Sichuan last September; construction work officially started this February with the RMB 1M donated by Yao Ming Foundation. The construction was completed on August 15, and yesterday, it was the inauguration of the school as the new school year commenced.
The name of the school was to commemorate the young teacher, Yang Xueyan who sacrified herself to save her students during the May 12 earthquake in 2008.
Yao Ming's agent in China, Mr. Lu Hao was there to represent Yao Ming and Team Yao to officiate in the ceremony, and all the school kids were given a nice booklet/album of Big Yao as a gift to commemorate the occasion.
Yao Ming called in from the States to congratulate the principal, the teachers and students about the completion/inauguration of the school. He said he was sorry that he could not make it to see the opening ceremony himself as he is still recuperating from his injury. He hoped the teachers and students like the new facilities and that the new school can bring them new hope and confidence; he also told the students that this school condensed the love and care of alot of people in the society, that they should study hard, grow and develop healthily, get good results to repay the love and care rendered them.
He also said that he will continue to keep track of the development of the school and the students, and if there are anything they need, all they have to do is ask, and Yao Foundation will do everything possible to help them.
He also promised that he will visit the school in future to see the school with his own eyes.

It's People's Republic of China's 60th year anniversary this year.
There was this public voting (through Internet, media and judging panels) of the Most Influential Chinese Athletes of the past 60 Years.
60 athletes (World and Olympic Champions) of various sports disciplines in different eras were voted in, and divided into Athletes of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's.
Only 2 people were voted in for the basketball category. Yao Ming is one of them. And the great point guard during the 70's and later national team head coach Qian Chenghai 钱澄海 (who died last year due to bone cancer) was the other one.
Alot of famous sports figures like Rong Guotuan (table-tennis), Tang Xianhu (badminton), Lang Ping (volleyball), Li Ning (gymnastics), Rong Zhihang (soccer), Gao Min (diving), Fu Mingxia (diving), Guo Jingjing (diving), Deng Yaping (table-tennis), Liu Guoliang (table-tennis), Luo Xuejuan (swimming), Chen Zhonghe (volleyball), Sun Haiping (track & field), Liu Xiang (track & field), Lin Dan (badminton), Wang Nan (table-tennis), Zhang Yining (table-tennis), Zhang Ning (badminton), Yang Wei (gymnastics), Zheng Jie/Yan Zi (tennis) were amongst the list as attached below.

And last night the award ceremony was live broadcasted on CCTV5 in the Beijing National Olympic Sports Centre.
Yao Ming was represented by his father Yao Zhiyuan (who flew back from Houston) at the award ceremony, who thanked all the Chinese fans for their support and love of Yao Ming. He said he had also to thank the economic reform/open door policy of the country. He said there were alot of Yao's predecessors having equal if not more superior basketball skills and abilities than Yao Ming. But they just did not have the chance like Yao Ming, who benefited from the country's open door policy/economic reform that he had the chance to go to a much bigger world stage in NBA to further grow and develop into the player that he is now. He said his son will further strive and play diligently on court to get better results in NBA and international basketball.

Any of your guys watched the work-out video that John taped of Big Yao practicing 300 shots every day in Toyota Centre???
Go to the YMM blog and watch the video.
For those of you like me in China that can't watch Youtube, here is the video that I uploaded to Tudou.com.

Attitude determines everything. 态度决定一切.
Just hope Yi Jianlian, Sun Yue and all the upcoming young Chinese basketball players will learn from Big Yao, hit the gym and practice their shooting persistently, and make them their daily routines.
