So this lucky lad from Sichuan finally got his wish come true.

The lad's name is Wu Dawei. He is a university student of the Sichuan Minyang Southwest Technology Institute (Minyang is amongst one of the earthquake stricken areas).

He is a basketball lover, and major in sports in his university. He survived the earthquake, but lost some of his relatives and good friends in the earthquake. He started to become a volunteer to assist in the aftermaths of the earthquake as well as taking up a volunteer teaching job at the Beichuan High School, teaching the kids there playing basketball.

Early in the year, he submitted a blog entry to a Qingdao Beer sponsored Make Your Wish Come True contest, saying his 2009 New Year wish is to be able to bring all the good wishes of basketball lovers in the Sichuan earthquake stricken areas (in the form of a basketball signed with names of thousands of Sichuan students) to go to Phoenix to see the NBA All Stars and to be able to see his idol, Yao Ming, in person, and be a volunteer in the NBA Cares Program.

Qingdao Beer, one of the many official sponsors of NBA, picked him as a winner, sponsor his full trip, as the honorable guest of David Stern, and he will present to David Stern that basketball in a separate NBA All Stars activity.....the NBA China Night.

Yao Ming interviewed by Craig Sager and Gary Payton of NBA TV in Phoenix

  • About his feeling about NBA All Stars
  • How he thinks Rockets'chance for playoff?
  • Whether he will take up the leaders' role?
  • What's his plan for the NBA All Stars?? Play long minutes or just show up and play token minutes?

Photos of Yao Ming and Sun Yue at a reception party named NBA China Night on Saturday night, when David Stern & NBA invited executives from major Chinese enterprises, which are either current NBA endorsers or future potential customers to thank them for their support (and business).

Thank you for all these nice photos, pryuen.

Noticed that Yi was absent in all these events. I would assume that he would be at least at the NBA China Night. Guess he is ticked off from fans complaining he is not worthy yet to play at the ASG. Lol.

Have you ever thought maybe it's because he is working hard on his rehab to be ready for the showdown with Yao and the Rockets straight after the ASG?

On a side note, it was good to see Dwight Howard actually DUNKED the ball in the DUNK contest this year. His superman lay up from last season was a joke.

who cares about all these events? Yi should be back at home resting and recuperating and making sure his pinky is ok for the next game against the ROX

EDIT: Tangman - Dwight is the real deal. Did u see him dunk on that raised b-ball goal? That was ridiculous how effortlessly he did it. Nates dunks were good but I kinda think Dwight shouldve won. He can dunk easily from the FT line as well

The guy is 6'11". His dunks are ok but nothing spectacular. I was just miffed last year he got a 50 for doing a lay up.
