Anyone hear any news on Aoshen? Has Sun and Zhang rejoined their team? On their website there are newly posted pics of both players in warmup gear along with their Aoshen teammates...not sure if these are old pics or not.

The latest I heard......Aoshen's owner had pledged to CBA that if any of his players are needed for the national team for Asian Games, they will be glad to oblige, and Aoshen will not send them back to ABA for the new season. That means if Sun Yue and Zhang Songtao continue to be picked for the national team, they will remain in China.

Asian Games are in December, so ya, they do. They overlap with about every basketball season.

thanks for the info...does this mean that Sun and Zhang will be stuck playing the whole season in CHina???

How are they going to improve this way?

ABA may not be the NBA or even top Euroleague, but at least they play some semblance of defense and play physical and intense, unlike the CBA.

true, but Zhang improved by leaps and bounds, which shows what going up against better competition can do for your game. Sun, in order to improve, must work on specific parts of his game...like shooting, playing without the ball, dealing with ball pressure, etc. He will still have much tougher competition in the ABA than he will ever face in the CBA.

So does the owner of Aoshen make money on the team? It seems like ABA teams dont make alot of money. He is an millionaire, makes his money somewhere else and Aoshen is probably a loss on the pocketbook for him.

Plus, does Aoshen have an youth team in China? What if Sun and Zhang leave for the draft, HuangHaiBei go play for a bigger contract with the Kings or Europe, where will they get their next generation of players?

he seems to have some pretty big sponsors and a television deal for his team, which is more than any ABA team can claim. However, I doubt this is a big revenue generator for him....more of a passion.

Without Sun, Zhang, and Huang, Aoshen would get crushed by any team in the ABA. They would be left with only Huo Nan, Jing Shing (sp?) and Li Vei. The rest of the players are below ABA level. Not sure if they have any prospects to add to the roster, but I sure hope so. The owner seems to have a good eye for talent.

http://sports.tom.com/2006-09-25/0829/01304554.html

So Beijing Aoshen Olympians have to play the first 4 weeks of ABA WITHOUT 3 of their key players..........

Other than Sun Yue and Zhang Songtao, Huo Nan is now summoned by Jonas Kazlauskas to train together with the national team in preparation for the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar this December !! Razz

It was disclosed that Kazlauskas has been closely watching Huo Nan's progress, and had wanted to include him into the national team prior to the World Championship. He was very dissatisfied with the performance of the guards in the World Championship, and therefore he now looks for a change, and has asked to include Huo Nan. Huo Nan used to be a point guard, but has been trained to play as a shooting guard. So he has good ball handling, passing, shooting, and plays good defense too.
