LOL !!! :P

Sina.com and Sohu.com gave different stats for Yao Ming....and yet the official stats are yet available. :P

What I read from the match reports, here was what happened:-

1Q: China had a slow start, with a lot of turnovers from the guards (around 10 tunrovers) and fell behind in 1Q: 14 vs 15; Yao Ming scored 6 points.....mostly from free throws. The poor 2.23M Iranian giant Jaber Rouzbahani had 3 fouls even before 1Q was over.

2Q: 1H ended with China behind 32 vs 35....Yao Ming was not given much chance to shoot....but always sent onto the free throw lines. Yao Ming scored another 6 points in 2Q, and Jaber Rouzbahani got his 4th foul.

3Q: Yao Ming played most of 3Q, scored 11 points, and lead China back to lead 59 vs 50 by end of 3Q. Most of his points were from free throws, as the Iranians had no way to stop him but to foul. Hamad Hadadi (2.16M) who substituted Jaber Rouzbahani also got 4 fouls in 2Q/3Q. So the Iranian coach sent on another 2.08M Mohammad Shahsavand. He was even worst to foul Yao Ming 3 times within less than 2 minutes.

4Q: Yao Ming continued to torment the Iranians, scored another 6 points; fouled out both Jaber Rouzbahani and Hamad Hadadi. He finally rested with 4 minutes left.....
Final score: 76 vs 61.

Yao Ming was just awesome and unstoppable....
He played almost the entire match...close to 35 minutes of play , got a double-double, scored 29 points, mostly from free throws (17/23 FT%), a lot of rebounds (Sina.com had it at 13, and Sohu.com had it at 17), a lot of block shots (Sina.com had it at 3; Sohu.com had it at 6) and 4 steals, and Iran almost ended the game without a legitimate centre, with 2 of them fouled out, and the other one with 4 fouls, living dangerously at the end of 4Q.

Hope Yao Ming can play like this dominant when he is back into Houston !!!

17 rebounds are more reliable. i watched the game, with about 6-7 mins left, the live stats showed yao had 14 rebounds by then, 6 offensive ones.

China beat Iran 76-61 in Asian Basketball Championships

www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-08 16:52:00

DOHA, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Houston Rockets center Yao Ming led China to beat Iran 76-61 in the opener of the 23rd Asian Basketball Championships here on Thursday.

Yao Ming collected 29 points, 17 rebounds and 3 blocks in the match. He was double-teamed from the very beginning, but he soon got Iranian centers into foul trouble and made 23 free throws.

The Chinese team suffered from a slow start in the match as they could not find the way to stop the Iranians from scoring out of the arc. They even legged behind 12-11 (should be 15 - 14) after the first period.

But as the Iranians committed more fouls and sent Yao Ming timeand again to the line, the Chinese team gradually gained an upper hand and pulled away to lead 57-50 (should be 59 vs 50) after the third period.

The fourth period was totally dominated by the Chinese team. Yao Ming was just unstoppable. He did an excellent job at both ends of the court and led China to a comfortable 76-61 win.

China will play Chinese Taipei while Iran takes on Uzbekistan on Friday

yao wasn't really as impressive as his stats indicated......if you've watched the game you'd know he was like playing with kids downlow.....he basically shot freethrows throughout the game and missed quite a few easy shots down low including missing dunks...the other guys on the team need to start moving their bodies and pass more efficiently instead of passing only when they are forced to without any other option

Well.....I know. I read some of those other articles and posts on Chinese websites, bashing and d@ssing the other team mates of Yao Ming that too much reliance was on Yao Ming that most of his team mates just passed him the bucket and let him do everything. With Yao Ming under double-teaming in 1Q, it caused about 7 out of 10 of those turnovers when the guards just tossed the ball to Yao Ming, resulting in steals or out of bounds.

There is very little the others do except hitting a few 3-pointers. There is very little penetration and one-on-one from the other players.

2 years ago, Yao Ming only needed to play 20 minutes, 15 points/10 rebounds and China led from start to finish and won over the Iranians by 24 points.

Now Yao Ming has to play for 35 minutes (out of a possible 40 minutes) and the win was not certain until the 4Q when every of the Iranian centres were fouled out by Yao Ming.

That proved that the Iranians had improved, and somehow China had not.

This is the "official" stats from Sina.com.

38 minutes of play; 29 points (6/15 FG% 17/23 FT%), 13 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 foul, 0 steal, 2 turnovers and 1 block.

So different from its live broadcast commentary or what was reported in sohu.com or the official Xinhua News agency....of 17 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks  :?:

iranians basically had no answers for yao. there were body contacts, there were fouls. yao's performance wasn't impressive, but he was still too strong for them to handle.

the rest of the cnt players just sucked. they couldn't pass, couldn't shoot, couldn't defend and committed stupid TOs, well, all in the 1st half.

yao didn't defend his counterparts well in the 1st half, but he did enough to get them into foul troubles. the turnaround began in the 3Q when iran had no centers to use at all. cnt controlled the tempo & played their game.
