I had waited over a year for the trailer to drop. Here is the trailer, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giWIr7U1deAChinese people didn't care for Mulan and they didn't care for Raya. My question is, how do mainland Chinese feel about this Shang Chi movie? Will Chinese people pay tickets to watch in the movie theaters? If the Chinese don't show up for Shang Chi, there won't be a Shang Chi part 2.

^ Me too. Simu is like a 21st century Bruce Lee. His global debut has been pretty successful so far.
The Chinese fans have compared him with a young Xi Jinping already. Pretty hilarious comparison.

He has potential to become the Asian Boseman

With respect to Shangchi 2, I don't think there will immediately be a shangchi 2. Black Panther 2 is still in production. But shangchi will join with other superheros like Iron Man, Spider Man, etc. Maybe Avengers. Who knows.

Marvel has their stories mapped out over multiple films planned for the next 10 years. There is no way they don't do a Shang Chi 2 simply because of box office performance in China. If there's anything we've seen from Marvel, it's their commitment to the story they are telling, and I assume Shang Chi is no exception.

^ That's right. Shangchi will be released in China almost at the same time with US, and maybe even earlier. Just like Avenger 3. As long as it's not a failure, which is highly unlikely as they put Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh and Fala Chan there, they will start producing Shangchi 2.
And not just mainland China, the whole Asia, at least East Asia, will like it too. After all, this is the only Asian hero in Marvel Universe so far.

Doesn't seem to be the case. The trailer hasn't received overwhelming approval from China, https://thedirect.com/article/marvel-sh ... e-reaction
Can someone explain to me why Mainland Chinese feel this way about Hollywood movies with Asian heroes? They seem to like it more if the hero is white. (ie Black Widow)

I don't know about other movies, but I'm going to guess that they have a problem with this one because it's a Chinese hero who appears to decide he prefers to live in the US and is turning his back on his father and his country.

It could be very controversial. Just like when Disney put Mulan into their princess series back in 1998. I was still in China back then. And I had no desire watching it.

Similar to Crazy Rich Asians, where the Chinese matriarch (Michelle Yeoh) basically gets shown up by the American upstart (Constance Wu) and has to give up her principles in order to keep the love of her son. Of course China won't like that story...
