Well, interest level DEFINITELY NOT HIGH.
Maybe only those sports fans who are interested in cycling will follow.
You may get alot of photos and reports about the Tour of Beijing from the following dedicated web page on Sina.com.

this should be interesting as to whether road cyclling would catch on in china. The uci is pushing to promote it as it sees the china's massive market has a big opportunity. But i'm unsure if talent and coaching wise, china has what it takes to succeed in a predominantly euro sports. i tried to find more info from cycling sites but i read mostly negative holier than thou anti china comments about smog, human rights and tibet....so not much help there.....

if anything, one "fringe" sport that i would like to see grow roots n develop in china is rugby...maybe i'm biased cuz i live in aus and enjoy watching the NZ All Blacks, but there is only 1 asian team in the world cup going on rite now and japan usually gets thhrashed.
We need another asian team to represent us. Hopefully china can field a decent team in 20 years but judging from chinese men past experience in internatiional team competitions, i'm prolly too optimistic.

Well you'll never know and should not under-estimate China's effort since the rugby sports had officially been included as an Olympic sports in the 2016 Olympics.
DEFINITELY China will put full force into its State Systems to come up with good national teams, both men and women to fight for a slot in the Olympics.
In fact, in the 2011 Shanghai Sevens (the first stop of HSBC Asian Sevens Series) back in August, the China women rugby national team beat 2010 Asian Games Champions Kazakhstan 19 ~ 10 in the Final.

As for the men, they lost to South Korea in the semi final, and could not contend for the Cup, but they beat Philippines 24 ~ 10, and then Malaysia 31 ~ 7 in the final for the Plate.

thats a step in the right dir, i generally dun care about chinese women sports cuz i'm a chauvinist pig lol, besides i think women rugby and boxing are wrong, but i hope the mens can be the best in asia. The potential is there, physique is important in rugby and i think china has the edge over japan.

Well, I don't think and would not say China has a very good team.
The sports is RELATIVELY young in China. China only became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1997.
As of September 3rd, 2011, China is ONLY ranked 61st in the world.
They're WELL BEHIND in Asia when compared to Japan (#15), Hong Kong (#27), Kazakhstan (#31), South Korea (#32), Sri Lanka (#45), Singapore (#49), Chinese Taipei (#57).
The good thing is that the sports is now re-instated into 2016 Olympic, and China will DEFINITELY put in the $$$$$$$ to develop the sports. When the sports was first developed in the 90's, there were only 30 registered rugby players, but by 1996, there were over a thousand instructors alone.
As there will only be 12 teams qualified to the 2016 Olympics, and NOT SURE how many slots will be alloted to Asia, so UNLESS China can surpass those top Asian countries in the next 4 years, personally I can't see they can squeeze into the 2016 Olympics.

you r kidding rite? I mean world cup level decent not asian level. Look at the guys in that pic, they are like small boys compared to the all blacks. Japan is the best team in asia and their 1st team will still get smashed by the AB's reserve team.
obviously size isnt everything otherwise the biggest team will always win but it does matters esp. For srums and lineouts.
