LOL !!! I almost exhausted my Google engine in the past few days, trying to find out what Yao Ming is doing there in Sanya, Hainan and particularly on his birthday. :P

Look what I've found, in the local newspaper of Hainan: Hainan Daily from the xinhuanet.com.

In summary:

 Yao Ming had arrived Sanya of Hainan, a famous resort in China the evening of Sept 8, and blocked out an exclusive "presidential" villa.
 He had purposedly stayed away from the media and had been disappearing for the past few days.
 He was there with another 6 persons (3 males and 3 females) including his girl friend Ye Li, and Anthony Falsone, the strength and conditioning coach at Houston Rockets.
 He was seen running along the beach of Dadonghai together with Anthony Falsone and his trainer.
 According to an anonymous waiter of the hotel, Yao Ming & company led a very orderly and quiet life during their stay: breakfast at 09:30am, and Yao Ming would start his physical training with his coach/trainer around 11:30am along the beach.
 Back in front of the hotel, Yao Ming, Anthony Falsone and trainer started rounds of 50-meter dash, until Yao Ming tired out with sweat, which left him huffing and puffing.
 As the on-looking crowd including tourists gathered, hotel security guards started to stop fans from getting near to Yao Ming for pictures and autograph signature.
 Yao Ming and company will leave Sanya after his birhtday.

So, we can relax that Yao Ming did not forget about his strength and condition training EVEN on his holidays/birthday, and will return to USA in the best of form and shape for the pre-season camp !!! :P

Awesome news pryuen. I was a bit worried that Yao would let himself go, like what he did earlier in the offseason. But I should have given Yao and the Rockets more credit. They know how important being in shape is for Yao's career as a pro baller.

And credit to pryuen for being the top explorer for Yao info. You da man.

Bringing to light the fact that Yao doesn't drink alcohol, or has NEVER even had an alcoholic beverage, I'm sure his birthday party was a REAL blast. I'm sure all that 7-Up made his face really red and filled him with drunken rage.

You talk like not drinking alcohol is evil. No need to diss Yao just because he doesn't get himself stupid drunk. Who says you need alcohol to have a great party?

OKAY, managed to find out MORE about his holiday/birthday stay in Sanya, Hainan from the following article:-

http://202.100.222.134/w2004/php/pages_xw.php?xuh=5990

In summary:

 He and 5 others (including Ye Li, Liu Wei, Anthony Falsone) arrived Sanya on Sept 8. Spent 1 week there staying at the Sanhaitian Hotel. They left Sanya Sept 14 afternoon.

 On Sept 12th, the hotel management specially arranged a birthday party for Yao Ming, who passed his unforgettable 24th birthday in Sanya. Upon his departure, Yao Ming shook hand with the hotel's general manager and praised their services: "It's great; such relaxing environment, and high quality service; my sincere appreciation. I watched out from my room from the "presidential" villa; I was like riding on a cruise: endless coastline; sound of the sea waves whipping against the shore; this really is like a paradise out of this world. Just simply memorable. I will come back if I have the opportunity again."

 According to the insiders, in early September, after an on-site inspection by Yao Ming's steward, Yao Ming & Co. chose the Sanhaitian hotel and blocked out a presidential villa. During his one-week stay, the hotel residents and tourists had been able to see Yao Ming & his friends in the hotel corridor, lobby, beach, swimming pool, and he caused commotion everywhere he went.

 Yao Ming did not forget about his strength and condition training while on holdiays. After breakfast, he would go to the gym for exercise with Liu Wei, and jogged in the afternoon or went to swim in the swimming pool.

 Having grown up in Shanghai and spent 2 years in the Sates, Yao Ming has developed special tastes for his food; he likes sweet, fresh and pale vegetables and particularly likes beef. To satisfy his special request, the hotel has specially designed a week-long menu with different dishes for every day of his stay. During his stay, Yao Ming seemed happy for finding some long-forlorn free space in life, and not willing to think about the new season.

 It is reported that towards mid September, Yao Ming will fly to San Francisco from Shanghai, and seek medical advice from a specialist on his injured foot/toe. Then, he will fly to New York to promote his autobiography before reporting to Houston Rockets to get ready for the new season.
