Assume he flown Cathay Pacific from SA to HKG. How could they off load Yao to cattle class? If you're referring to the last pic in your post, that's not Y class. He's in business class. He's seating in the last row of business class the curtain that separates business and economy is right behind him. "domestic business class" short haul is just a bigger seat with more leg room and lower recline. Comparing to international long haul business class, with a fully flat bed seat, big different. The color of the seat doesn't look like Cathay though, probaly China Southern or something.

Well, Cathay Pacific do have direct flights from Hong Kong to Chengdu; but China Southern Airline does not.

The only airlines that got direct flights from Hong Kong to Chengdu are Cathay Pacific, Air China, DragonAir, Sichuan Airline, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airline

I got this information of him being offloaded from the microblog of an air hostess;
here is what she wrote.

飞成都商务舱居然把姚明给offload了,差一点就差一点我就能serve小巨人了.

I was flying/serving business class in the flight for Chengdu; they offloaded Yao Ming; I almost can serve the Little Giant.

Since the air hostess is a Shanghainese, living in Pudong, basically it rules out all the Hong Kong based airlines (Cathay Pacific, DragonAir, Hong Kong Airline, Hong Kong Express) and it would be Air China or Sichuan Airline.

LOL.may be the pic was taken prior to him being off loaded. I'd be surprised if they off loaded Yao if he paid for his business class seat. Hopefully, they gave him an exit row seat. I guess either Yao's ticket was gratis or Yao paid for an economy ticket and got a free upgrade. But then business class was sold out, so they moved him back, because there's no way they would bump a paying customer, especially someone as famous as Yao's.

Offload in airline lingo usually means the person is taken off the plane. If he was moved to from business to economy class or vice versa, it's either, upgrade or downgrade. May be she meant he got put on a different flight?

PROBABLY.

He was making a same day connection flying straight back from South Africa to transit Hong Kong for Chengdu. According to what was reported yesterday, he did not arrive Chengdu until midnight. and by the time he made it to Leshan, it was 2:30 am in the morning. And he only slept 4 to 5 hours before showing up in his Yao Foundation event at Leshan Normal University.

Maybe he did not reconfirm the Hong Kong ~ Chengdu sector and the flight got full and therefore he had to be offloaded and relocated to another flight.

Dug out the touching story behind the following photos taken duirng Yao Ming's visit at the Nairobi Park Orphanage in Nairobi.

Back into China, when asked about this 2-week old baby elephant, Yao Ming said there are altogether 22 elephants including this baby elephant at the Nairobi Park Orphanage in Nairobi.

He said the mother of this baby elephant had been killed by the poachers. The baby elephant was saved and transported to the orphanage to be under protection.

But the baby elephant was missing his mother and had trouble of settling down in the the orphanage, and was still under an adaptation stage to get over the loss of his mother. The baby elephant will stay in the orphanage for another 3 years and then set free to live in the wild again.

Maybe the baby elephant thought Yao Ming is his mother !!! :P

why did they choose an old pic of BIG YAO? clearly BIG YAO does not look like that anymore..

Yao probably weighed 310lbs when that picture was taken, he probably weighs close to 400lbs in those africa pictures.
