Yao Ming is back in China !!! :shock:

After the last game at Toyota Centre with Dallas Mavericks ended, Yao Ming did not travel with his team to Minnesota for the last game of the season with the Timberwolves.

Instead, he applied for an approval of leave from the Rockets, and took a red-eyed flight to leave Houston and arrived Beijing late last night.

After a 1-night stayover, he flew from Beijing to Hainan this morning (April 14) to attend the prestigious 2011 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, attended by major politicians and business leaders of various Asian countries.

He is invited to participate and deliver the keynote speech in this afternoon's Young Leaders Roundtable on the theme: Charting Growth ~ To Include the Exlcuded.

He is invited as one of the 26 young leaders of Asia to attend the above Roundtable.

After today's activity at BFA, Yao Ming will visit and hold a basketball clinic at Qiong Hai Sports Academy to meet with young players and fans tomorrow before leaving for Shanghai.

He will probably stay in Shanghai for 2 to 3 weeks before departing for Houston in early May.

Yao Ming lived up to his promise, paid a visit to the Qionghai Sports Academy this morning (April 15) in Qionghai of Hainan, had briefings with the officials of the sports academy there to learn about the recent trends of athletes/basketball development, and met with young basketball players and had photos with them.

MORE PHOTOS covering Yao Ming's activities in Boao Forum for Asia yesterday.

Prior to his visit to the Qionghai Sports Academy, there were some activities of the 2011 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Forum in the morning, and President Wu Jintao took time to meet the 26 Young Leaders from Asia;

Yao Ming also participated in a cocktail and was seen here discussing about environmental protection with former US Treasury Secretary Henry "Hank" Paulson Jr.

And during night time, Yao Ming was invited to join as a honorary guest at a cocktail that served both for charity and the official launch of weibo.com, a popular Twitter-like Chinese microblog run by Sina.com at a resort nearby the beautiful Boao Qianzhou Bay 博鳌千舟湾.

I thought Yao Ming left Hainan yesterday (April 16) morning.

He did not,
and instead under the invitation of Wendy J.Paulson, (wife of former US Treasury Secretary Henry "Hank" Paulson Jr. , and Chairperson of RARE Conservation), he spent an extra morning paying a visit to the Dongzhaigang Red Forest Nature Reserve area at Haikou, and helped to sow/plant some seeds for red trees, and spoke to young children and urged them to preserve the nature and environment.

Photos of Yao Ming visiting the Dongzhaigang Red Forest Nature Reserve.

MORE photos of Yao Ming at the Dongzhaigang Red Forest Nature Reserve area at Haikou.

The Dongzhaigang Red Forest Nature Reserve (Hong Shu Lin) 东寨港红树林自然保护区 is an unusual and intriguing evergreen forest peculiar to the subtropical coastal area of Hainan. Despite the name, the trees here do not actually have red leaves. The bizarre thing about this coastal forest is that when the tide is in, the roots of the trees are surrounded by water, giving the appearance that the trees grow directly from beneath the sea. This aquatic environment is ideal for breeding fish and shrimp and the leaves on the trees here are also said to have medicinal value. This particular type of tree produces seeds which sprout and propagate within their own shell. Once they have dropped from the tree to the ground, they grow into flowers within one or two hours. If the seed falls into the sea however, it does not take root but remains alive for up to three months until it finds land to harvest on.
