[color=darkred]After acting as the basketball commentator for CCTV5 for the initial 4 games of the China national team in Wuhan for the 2011 FIBA Asian Championship, Yao Ming skipped the remaining 2 games (versus Jordan and Japan), and left Wuhan on the 21st to be in Beijing for a CCTV event, before flying back to Shanghai to preside in another charity event organized by WildAid to continue promoting his fight to protect the sharks.

This afternoon (September 22), he joined hand with British tycoon, Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines in Shanghai in a press conference thrown by WildAid, Virgin Airlines and Yao Ming Foundation; and new versions of Public Services Announcement featuring Yao Ming and Sir Richard Branson were launched during today's press conference.

Yao Ming will return to Wuhan to continue his basketball commentator job for CCTV5 in the quarter final, semi final and final of the 2011 FIBA Asian Championship (provided China is not eliminated in the quarter final) during the next 3 days (September 23 ~ 25).[/color]

[color=darkred]Dan Panaggio, the newly appointed Head Coach, had yet to arrive Broome. Liu Wei, Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks' captain and starting point guard, and also the captain of China national team had opted to stay in Shanghai for rest after a tiring 2011 FIBA Asian Championship.

As Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks had yet to sign any expat players, Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks played with a full team of Chinese young players.

The Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks played rather scrappy; after carving out a 8-point lead in 1Q (14 ~ 6), and further stretched the lead to 11 points by half time (28~17), they only managed to score 4 points and got caught up by the Indonesia national team in 3Q; the game was tied 32 ~ 32 by end of 3Q, and Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks just barely won the game 45 ~ 41.

Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks top scorer was Meng Lingyuan who made 4/8 3-pointers 1/1 FT to have 13 points; Max Zhang Zhaoxu, who arrived Australia together with Yao Ming after playing for the national team in the 2011 FIBA Asian Championship, only played 10 minutes, but was highly efficient with 6 points/6 rebounds/1 block shot. Ji Xiang scored 9 points/8 rebounds; [/color]
