As CBA Chairman, Yao Ming attended a star-studded event, the official draw ceremony of the qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, last night at the Guangzhou Canton Tower.
The ceremony consisted of four different draws, one for each region - Africa, Americas, Asia (which includes Oceania) and Europe. 4 ex-NBA/international basketball stars were there as guests to do the drawing: Scottie Pippen (USA), Andrew Gaze (Australia), Andrei Kirilenko (Russia) and Yi Jianlian.
Starting in November this year, the 80 national sides will play home and away games across six qualifying windows spanning a 15-month period to decide 31 qualifying teams to join the host China in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Despite being the host country automatically qualifying for this World Cup, China still decided to join the Asian qualifiers to gain experience and FIBA ranking points, but got drawn into a relatively tough group comprising of South Korea, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
Here are photos and results of the drawing from last night's event !!!

It's 2 days away from Yao Foundation Charity Games in Hong Kong.
But the busy Yao Ming in his capacity as CBA Chairman is currently in Bengaluru aka Bangalore of India to rave support/cheer on the China women national team in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.
The Chinese women team had been doing very well, demolishing teams (New Zealand, Chinese Taipei and North Korea) in the preliminaries by averaging 40 some points winning margin, and trashed Philippines 117 ~ 43 in the quarter final, and is now in the Final 4, and had already secured a slot for the 2018 FIBA World Cup for women.
The women CNT will face Japan in the semi final tonight, while South Korea will be pitched against Australia in the other semi final. The final is scheduled tomorrow.
So NOT SURE IF Yao will stay all the way until the tournament is over.

LOL !!!! Yao Ming showed up in the semi final of Australia vs South Korea together with Head Coach Xu Limin of China Women National Team in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, probably doing some scouting of how both teams play. Officials of the Indian Basketball Association gifted Yao Ming traditional Indian costume to put on !!! Big Yao just looked SO FUNNY !!!

PRETTY DISAPPOINTING !!!
The Chinese women basketball team lost AGAIN to Japan !!!! 71 ~ 74 !!! They were leading 69 ~ 60 by mid 4Q, and seemed like coasting to a victory. But then CNT Head Coach Xu Limin made some very strange substitutions, benched Zhao Shuan and Shao Ting and replaced them with 2 players that had sat on the bench for a long while. His purpose could be giving the 2 players some needed breathers, but he sort of let the Japanese had the chance to come back. The Japanese stepped up on defense, and kept the Chinese women at bay and scoreless for close to 4 minutes or so and got on a 11 ~ 0 run to lead by 71 ~ 69.China tied the game but then the Japanese scored a 3-pointer with less than 2 minutes left for China. But China just bricked their next 3 offensive possessions, and Japan sneaked away with the win !!! So it will be Australia vs Japan in the Final, and China will play South Korea for the 3rd/4th position.

So Yao Ming stayed behind in Bengaluru to rave support/cheer on the China women national team in their 3rd/4th classification placement game in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup. This time, the women CNT did not disappoint him, and they demolished the South Koreans 75 ~ 51.
