Yao's impact on Asian Societies very minimal mostly on advertisements.
Impact on Asian Basketball Programs minimal mostly in conversation, How are we gonna produce a Yao Ming?

Chinese Basketball program: He is suppose to be the centerpiece for a team that will compete in the 2008 Olympics.
Chinese NBA fans:
Yao's Rookie Year - he is going to be great someday mabe not as great as Shaq but great anyway.

Second Year = Yeah he's proven he's no shawn Bradley what's next?

Third Year as of this moment = Somehow being as good as Rik Smits just does not excite us anymore.

Forth Year or Remainder of this season = To be continued.

To Yao fans in America = He better start producing soon or else we gonna get ribbing for his Rik Smits like #'s
To Colin Pine and Team Yao = He's the boss very big impact.

influence To me. - 30 minute longer on internet everyday

no, he did not.

 year 1, he showed great skills---worthy of all-star status---w limitless potentials. opponents had to double on him.

 year 2, showed marked improvement. performance held back a bit, by the ball hog---SF and CM.

 year 3, so far, not performing as well as year 2---but still at an all-star level. what is disappointing is that, in his 3rd NBA campaign, the deeply embedded polite bB mentality is STILL intact.

until yao is able to discard that polite BB mentality, he is just a good NBA baller, not MVP caliber.

should he break-thru and consistently play aggressively---it is up to Yao---he could be dominating. he would be included in the high rent district---MVP and even HOF material

its ALOT easier to get into the HOF than to get a MVP award.

I think even if Yao is a 10 8 career player he'lll still make the HOF based on where he comes from.

Do you guys think that by the time Shaq retires Yao will carry the torch as being one of the most dominant in the league? Can he even be a great center that America will acknowledge?

If yes, will it improve the way America views Asians?

Yao should talk to the persistent China-bashers. International relations will improve because of him.
