Foshan Draglions also had the previlege of signing 2 US/Europe + 1 Asian expats.

  • They dropped their 2 expats of last season: Marcus Haislip (who chose to join Dongguan New Century Leopards), and Marcus Douthit (who went back to play in Philippines.)
  • They retained their Asian expat, Michel Maadanly from Syria.
  • They signed the following 2 expat players:

    • Jerome Randle, the 5ft 10 point guard who failed to crack into Dallas Mavericks' rotation and played for various NBDL teams instead.
    • Eric Dawson, a 6ft 9 forward, who failed to crack into San Antonio Spurs' rotation, and instead chose to play overseas in Japan and South Korea.
  • On local players, Foshan Draglions had an injection of fresh blood of young players as Wang Pu, Ju Mingxin, Ren Junwei and Zhu Xuhang are either permanently transferred or on loan to them from Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers.
The full roster of Foshan Draglions is as follows:

  • Liang Fei
  • Zheng Zhun
  • Yang Wenbo

Now let's review some of the changes made to the bottom team last season, Jiangsu Nangang Dragons, which had its worst season ever.

  • They sacked their head coach Xu Qiang and hired former head coach of Darcin Tigers of Taiwan SBL Taiwanese Qiu Dazong to be their head coach.
  • They dropped the expats they had last season: Jackson Vroman (who joined Shandong Kingston in the new season) and Marcus Williams.
  • Instead they signed 2 former Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks player:

    • Mike Harris
    • Garret Siler who previously played for Phoenix Sun and Atlanta Hawks after his CBA sting with Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks.
  • They had signed Benny Koochoie, an Iranian-American combo guard, but now they're contemplating to replace him and to find a replacement due to inept performance during the preseason.
  • They also had some problems with 3 players: Yang Li, Zhang Caibao and Wu Nan. The 3 players demanded either a salary raise or free transfer to other CBA or NBL teams. But Jiangsu Nangang Dragons rejected their demands and registered them. The 3 players had indicated that they will not represent Jiangsu Nangang Dragons to play in the new season.
The full roster for Jiangsu Nangang Dragons is as follows:

  • Yi Li
  • Meng Da
  • Yang Li
  • Liu Yahui
  • Wu Nan
  • Wang Junjie
  • Zhang Caibao
  • Cai Lilong
  • Chen Xiuyuan
  • Hou Yifan
  • Gao Yuxiang
  • Wei Song
  • Wei Zhengxian
  • Hu Xuefeng
  • Benny Koochoie (To be replaced)
  • Mike Harris
  • Garret Siler

What are these teams doing now? They should just start the season now. What are they waiting for?

It's a poor league.

Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers
had waived Derrick Caracter, and instead signed 29-year old USA ex-international power forward Ike Diogu.

Ike Diogu is no stranger to CBA; he played 8 games for Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers last season during the playoff.

Foshan Draglions had waived both Eric Dawson and Jerome Randle, and signed 29-year-old Shavlik Randolph (who played for Dongguan New Century Leopards last season), and 28-year old American swingman Rashad McCants, who had played professionally in Philippines, Puerto Rico, NBA (Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings) and D-League (Frisco Texas Legends).
