Qingdao Double Star Eagles had one of their best seasons last season when they just barely missed the playoff and eventually placed #9 in the CBA league.

And in the off season, they had the BIGGEST signing in Tracy McGrady.

They had the following major changes during the off season:

  • They let go of Lester Hudson, the #2 CBA highest scoring player (behind JR Smith) with 33.6 ppg, who joined Dongguan New Century Leopards.
  • They also lost their biggest local star in Li Gen, CBA All Stars MVP, who was lured away by Beijing Jinyu Capital Steel Ducks.
  • Cai Liang also returned to Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks after a 2-year loan.
They are the only CBA team yet to confirm their second expat. Rumors are that they decided to drop Olumide Oyedeji and had reached agreement with former NBA player, the 32-year old 7-foot Belgian ex-international center Ilunga Mbenga, who formerly won 2 NBA Chmapionship rings with LA Lakers.

But even with Tracy McGrady and Ilunga Mbenga, their local Chinese players are too weak, and they might struggle to be able to reach playoff this year.

The full roster of Qingdao Double Star Eagles is as follows:

  • Li Tao
  • Wang Gang
  • Zhao Yonggang
  • Lv Yan
  • Zhai Jinshuai
  • Yang Genglin
  • Xue Yuyang
  • Chen Kai
  • Feng Qi
  • Li Guang
  • Liu Mingtao
  • Wang Qingming
  • Xing Ruixin
  • Shang Ping
  • Yao Daqiang
  • Tracy McGrady
  • Ilunga Mbenga (To Be Confirmed)

How come you asked "what's the difference?" and now you are saying "It's different"?
