Well, according to what was written in a few of his autobiographies here in China:

  • Yao Ming was 1.2M/3ft 11 tall entering kindergarten at the age of 4.
  • When he entered primary 1 at the age of 7, he was 1.5M/4ft 11.
  • At the age of 9, he was 1.7M/5ft7.
  • At the age of 13, i..e the year he enrolled into the sports academy, he was 1.97M/6ft 5.5.

LOL !!!!

Yao Ming just finished his first day of school today (November 7) at the Shanghai Jiaotong University !!!

Due to his busy commitment and activities re his Foundation, charities, commercial engagements and matters related to his Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks in October, he had delayed going back to school for 1 full month as originally planned.

He finally completed his student registration at Shanghai Jiaotong University last Friday (November 4), and enrolled into Antai College of Economics & Management, majoring in Economics. He needs to complete 150 credits for his degree, and it will be a combinations of classroom and 1-on-1 instructions by designated professors.

And today, Yao Ming showed up in the Min Hang campus of Shanghai Jiatong University to take his first class in one of his selected course in Major Issues Study in Chinese Contemporary History.

And the whole Min Hang campus was boiled with excitement with university students waiting outside to take snap shots of Yao Ming with their cell phones. And Big Yao required security guards to clear his path on his way to the classroom and upon leaving.

Big Yao will throw a press conference later in the day at the campus, together with senior officials at Shanghai Jiaotong University, informing the public details about his studies, and most probably pleading the public and media to give him some breathing space/privacy as he returns to school.

Actually, other 2 consecutive sessions of Major Issues Study in Chinese Contemporary History (45 minutes each), Yao Ming also took Linear Algebra today (also 2 sessions of 45 minutes each), and then University English (another 2 sessions of 45 minutes each).

So a total of 4 and 1/2 hours classes today.

Other than Major Issues Study in Chinese Contemporary History whcih was a class room instruction, the other 2 courses in Linear Algebra and University English were 1-on-1 with the professors.
