[quote="NYC Yao Fan in UMich"]i happened to be in town and had courtside seats for this game. He wasn't looking very good warming up. I never said it's just this one injury, it's the cumulative effect of all the games he has missed. When he was being fronted, he wasn't quick enough to get to the ball, i think even u will agree that he's on the downside of his career. Do you think Yao will average more than 20 points a game again?

as in is it possible?

yes it's possible that he could go for 20 in the playoffs

Yao's recovery is not done, and Yao could get hurt again. but it's not like it's impossible for him to average 20 if he gets healthy.

obviously there will be liabilities, he might be slower than before but on the offensive end he could be a productive player if he fully recovers. why not?

Not if he only plays 24 min a game. So no, he won't average 20 points a game. At this point, he needs to improve his physical part of game, get into game shape. Nonetheless, he gets hurt too easily it seems, which often mess up his routine. For instance, now he has to sit out for a week which means it will further delay his improvement.

yes. not this season but if he gets back in shape and keeps playing he could well average 20 future seasons playing even 30 mpg.

assuming he completes his rehab completely he wont be playing 24 min a game next season for example.

the 24 min was imposed because the doctors and training staff dont want to put too much stress on his body since he's still not fully recovered. it's like when your left knee is bad and you favor your right knee and then injure your right knee. they're being cautious so nothing gets throw into the cogs that can derail Yao's path back

if Yao completes his rehab and gets to 100% this year he could well average 20 in the future. obviously that depends on a lot of things like staying healthy and staying in a system that favors him but it's not out of the question.

it's going to take at least this season for him to recover. it's stupid to assume his ceiling when it's basically like he's playing with a handicap atm.

the bigger question isn't whether he has enough game to average 20 but what's going to happen to this team, whether the players and staff are committed to featuring Yao and whether he stays healthy and completes his rehab.

If you and guys on this board think it's functionally impossible for Yao to keep playing that's stupid he looks pretty good at his stage of recovery... he just needs to quit taking stupid charges and going to the floor and stay healthy

again, the question is DO YOU think he's going to average over 20 a game again? NOT ... if he's healthy... blah blah.

The reason people question him is NOT that he's not capable of it. Yao's 30 years old, games played for his last 5 seasons:

05-06: 57
06-07: 48
07-08: 55
08-09: 77
09-10: 5

This is not a healthy Yao, all these injuries worsen your conditioning, game time speed, and the worse your conditioning the easier it is for you to get hurt.

If Shaq is healthy at age 40 and lost 50 pounds....

can you read idiot?

i wrote yes a million times.

quit crying about his condition when hurt. it's not blah blah jackass, you realize that he's still recovering right? you're making snap judgments and crying about his future but fail to understand you're basically watching a dude who is in the middle of his rehab process.

IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO????

Playing at 60 ~70% of his former self, Yao Ming is averaging 12.8 ppg and 6.5 rebounds in 21 minutes.

It's NOT TOO EXTRAVAGANT
to expect when he becomes healthy, he can average 20 points/10 rebounds in 30 some minutes of play.
