Zaid Abbas of Lebanon had arrived Shanghai and had joined the Shanghai Sharks in team practice/scrimmage, demonstrating good offensive and defensive skills.

And so had Yen Hsin-shu 颜行书.

Video of John Lucas III arriving into Shanghai and joined his first team practice/scrimmage with the Shanghai Sharks yesterday.

He arrived the night of December 2 (Wednesday), completed his medical check yesterday morning, and immediately joined the Shanghai Sharks in team practice/scrimmage in the afternoon, and appeared not affected by the jetlag.

Well it seems Yao Ming had managed to put together a well-balanced team of the Shanghai Sharks.

They had struck up a winning streak of 2 in their pre-season warm-up, pitching up against Russia's Moscow Dynamo, a team that currently ranked 8th in the Russian SuperLeague.

They thrashed Moscow Dynamo by 35 points (109 ~ 73) in a closed-door exhibition game Tuesday night (December 8 ), and in their second rematch last night (December 9), in their new home court stadium at Pudong, they beat the Russians again by 24 points (93 ~ 69).

All the new players played superb.

Both Garret Siler and Zaid Abbas dominated on the boards and the interior. Both scored a double-double; Garret Siler scored 15 points/14 rebounds, while Zaid Abbas scored 11 points/19 rebounds.

Liu Wei and John Lucas III started together and rotated on position 1 and 2 alternatively. Liu Wei was the top scorer of his team with 19 points, while John Lucas III scored 17 points.

3 foreigners? So I guess they are not counting Abbas as a foreigner? What does the rest of the team look like? I would guess Wang Yong is starting, and who is the other Shanghai youngster that is starting?

Kinda disappointed they are going with this approach, was hoping they would develop their youngsters more. Last year Peng Fei and Luo Xu Dong played very well, was hoping they would get more minutes, looks like not going to happen. Looks like the kids would sit on the bench.

Naaaaaah, Zaid Abbas is considered an expat/foreign player, but not for the case of Yen Hsin-shu 颜行书 of Chinese Taipei, who is considered a local player.

Shanghai Sharks was placed 18th, rock bottom in CBA last season.

And if I'm not mistaken, in order to enhance competitiveness, CBA allows the rock bottom 4 to 6 teams (????) to sign 3 expat/foreign players (2 from USA/Europe, and 1 from Asia).
That's WHY Shanghai Sharks has 3 expats/foreign players.

Their starting roster was Liu Wei, John Lucas III, Wang Yong, Zaid Abbas and Garret Siler in the 2 warm-up games with Moscow Dynamo.

Personally think Peng Fei and Luo Xudong will get their play minutes from the bench.

So it is going to be like a big carnival tomorrow night for the season opener of the 2009/2010 CBA season between Shanghai Sharks and Zhejiang Guangsha.

All tickets were sold out in the 5000-seat Yuan Shen stadium, the new home court of the Shanghai Sharks in Lujiazui, Pudong.

There will be a pre-match ceremony of presided by Yao Ming of raising the 2000/01 championship banner/flag of Shanghai Sharks that Yao Ming led the team to win in the 2000/01 season and his retired #15 jersey.

A lot of celebrities, including Jackie Chan, "Blackie" Chen Chienchou, Ding Junhui, the snoker champion will be at the game.

The first 1,000 fans will get a free Shanghai Sharks jersey, and if Shanghai Sharks win by over 100 points, all the fans will get free coupon for a pizza.

And Yao Ming will also hand out season tickets to 10 winners of a contest of the most loyal/die-hard Shanghai Sharks fans.

There will also be luck draws, and donation ceremony for charity.

So it seems it is going to be FUN !!!!

I don't think Pryuen's in Shanghai.

So farm, seems like a really good marketing approach from what I'm reading there though.
