Yao Ming recieved a tailor-made diamond ring from Beijing Gallop Jewellery Co. Ltd. aka Diamend Gems & Jewelery Co. Ltd. this afternoon (July 24).

Beijing Diamend Gems & Jewelery
used to be a CBA sponsor and produced championship rings for players of the championship team in every season for the past 5 years.

They tailor made a special diamond ring, embedded with 248 diamonds, with Yao Ming's Houston Rockets #11, Yao Ming's English name and head at the side, and Yao Ming's Chinese signature in front, and gifted it to Big Yao in recognition of his contribution to Chinese basketball.

They also made a special necklace with a pendant (where photos of one's beloved can be placed) for Ye Li. Big Yao received the necklace on behalf for his wife.

Sometimes I wonder how Big Yao can manage his time so well.

Yesterday (July 23), between the press conference/launch of the Yao Monster product lines in China and the Charity Gala at night, he managed to squeeze in 90 minutes for an interview and on-line chat/Q&A at Sohu.com at 16:00 pm.

Here are the photos of the event.

And in today's afternoon, he had another interview with Sina.com at the Crowne Plaza Wuzhou Parkview Hotel.

I guess he did that just to be fair with the media.

In the interview, he received alot of gifts from his fans.

Sometimes you just have to admire this guy and wonder how much time he has, and how he manages his time so well.

Big Yao flew to Shanghai Sunday morning, and together with Lang Lang, Li Ning, Pu Cunxin and a few other celebrities led 300 to 400 poor kids from Sichuan, Qinghai and Xinjiang to tour the 2010 Shanghai EXPO yesterday afternoon, starting from 14:00pm.

Due to number of kids, they were divided into 3 to 4 manageable groups to be led by Yao Ming, Lang Lang and Li Ning; Yao Ming, Pu Cunxin and Jin Jing (the crippled girl that was made famous when she was attacked by Tibet Independence supporters in Paris during her Olympic torch relay back in 2008) and players from the Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks led about 100 children from Sichuan and Xinjiang to tour the Saudi Arabia pavillion.

HERE YOU GO with some very high resolution photos of that tour.

And last night, Yao Ming, in his capacity as the Global Image Ambassador, showed up in a big variety show specially put together for the poor kids from around Sichuan, Qinghai and Xinjiang at the EXPO Cultural Centre within the EXPO arena.

Various artists/singers/dancers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China performed during the show.

Yao Ming also came onto the stage to preform with 4 kids from his Sichuan Yao Foundation Xue-Yan Project Hope Primary School.

He asked if anyone in the audience were having their birthday yesterday. A few in the audience raised their hands.

Then taking out an IPAD, and in front of the world renowned pianist, Lang Lang, Yao Ming started to play "Happy Birthday To You" on the IPAD.

He told the audience, in preparation for his role as a new father, he started to learn alot of children songs and practice electronic organ; he also found that software on IPAD where he can play songs. He said he had practice the "Happy Birthday To You" for days before the birth of his baby girl, and he now plays from his IPAD every night to lure his baby girl into sleep.

Right after that, Yao Ming also taught Lang Lang how to spin a basketball with his finger tip. And with the risk of injuring his multi-million-dollar fingers, Lang Lang picked it up quickly, and demonstrated it to the applause of the audience.

Once again, some high resolution photos capturing those moments of last night's variety show.

No talk about Yao thinking retirement if his foot doesn't heal?

from espn

Quote:
Rockets center Yao Ming will consider quitting basketball after the 2010-11 season if he doesn't fully recover from a lingering foot injury.

He sounded far from optimistic about his future in comments made to Chinese state media on Monday.

"If the foot injury does not heal next season, I might choose to call it quits," Yao said.

He is entering the final season of his current contract with Houston and recently became a father.

Yao missed last season following foot surgery.

If his foot doesn't heal, then he wouldn't be able to play...so retirement would be obvious...
