Yao Ming showed up in this morning's press conference to sign contract with its title sponsor: Cheng Shin-Toyo Tire & Rubber (China) Co., Ltd. of Kunshan, Jiangsu.

Shanghai Oriental Sharks will be renamed Shanghai Oriental MAXXIS Sharks.

Cheng Shin-Toyo Tire & Rubber (China) Co., Ltd. of Kunshan, Jiangsu is a joint venture of Cheng Shin Rubber Industrial. Co.,Ltd. of Taiwan and Toyo Tire & Rubber Company of Japan.

Its parent company, Cheng Shin Rubber Industrial Co.,Ltd. of Taiwan, currently ranked the 11th largest tire company in the world, and the largest manufacturer of bicycle tires in the world.

MAXXIS is its major brand of tires.

Cheng Shin started from scratch in 1967, and specialized on manufacturing of bicycle tires, but had now extended its reach beyond Asia, expanding into other market segments including tires for motorcycle, All-terrain vehicle (ATV), lawn & garden, race kart, industrial, trailer, auto, light truck, truck and bus.

The company now employs over 15,000 people and operates in nine countries: Canada, the People's Republic of China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States.

And Cheng Shin is very keen on sports sponsorship. They had in the past sponsored Houston Rockets, China Rally, and Liverpool of the UK Premiership.

Yao Ming was a busy man this morning.

He and his Shanghai Sharks coach/players attended yet another press conference, thrown by the International Wildlife Conservation Organization: Active Conservation Awareness Programme WildAid (ACAP WildAid) of which Yao Ming is the Global Image Spokesperson since 2006.

It was the global launch/release of a new Public Service Announcement/ad featuring Yao Ming.

During the event, Yao Ming joked that he has now more morl obligation to protect the sharks and not eating shark fins cos he is now the owner of the Shanghai Sharks. He also urged more of celebrities and his compatriots joining his rank.

The whole Shanghai Shark teams also pledged to stop eating shark fins during the press conference.
