So Game 4.

Rockets currently leads 2 ~ 1.

For the Rockets, this is a MUST WIN to be at 3 ~ 1 returning to Portland with the hope of closing out the series in Game 5.

Personally think, despite the struggle of the Rockets finding solutions to free Yao Ming from the very physical and brutal fronting/double-teaming defense strategy of the TrailBlazers, the Rockets should be able to beat the TrailBlazers again in Game 4.

  • TrailBlazers played relatively poor on the road. They had lost 11 of the previous 12 games in Toyota Centre.
  • Brandon Roy had been suffering severe flu for the past 2 days; even though he could play in Game 4, the flu in the past 2 days could affect him physically and therefore his peformance.
  • Even though offensively, the Rockets had sort of lacked of the usual 20-points contribution from Big Yao in the past 2 games, the other Rockets had been exploiting the numerical superiority over the TrailBlazers due to the fact that Yao Ming always drew away 1 to 2 players and the other 4 Rockets always played 4 vs 3, and were with more scoring opportunities. Unless the TrailBlazers make drastic change to their defense strategy, which otherwise will free Yao Ming, which I don't think they will, the numerical superiority of the other Rockets over the TrailBlazers will still prevail, and it will be left to the other Rockets (Luis Scola, Ron Artest, shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, Von Wafer, Kyle Lowry) to step up and make their shots.
  • Defensive wise, other than Game 2 whereas Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge combined for almost 70 points, the Rockets had been playing suffocating defense to contain/subdue the TrailBlazers. I have confidence that the no-nonsense defense will continue.
But the Rockets need to learn their lessons from Game 3, particularly after they had jumped out with a lead of 15 to 20 points. They should not relax, and stop their no-ball/body movements, and revert to playing selfish and individualistic basketball which Aaron Brooks, Von Wafer and Ron Artest are so fond of, and let the TrailBlazers hanging on there with the hope of coming back into the game, cos we all know the TrailBlazers are good in those come-from-behind wins.

The Rockets need to play energy, intensity and urgency; the guards need to be able to dictate the rhythm/tempo of the game, and try to find and pass balls to Yao Ming. Ron Artest and Shane Battier need to bring their A game defense to shut down the TrailBlazers as well as making contribution in offense relying on team work. And the guards should do more penetration, to either find Yao Ming or Luis Scola despite heavy fronting/double-teaming of Big Yao.

All in all, this is a MUST WIN.

GO GO ROCKETS !!! GO GO BIG YAO !!!

Hopefully Rox will work the ball to Yao more. We need him in the game as a facilitator not a decoy. Not necessarily for more shot attempts but definitely more touches.

Also need to force refs to make those calls in the paint early in the game.

Thank god Turkoglu hit that huge 3 and now hopefully there's no OT in the Magic v Sixers game.
