Following up from the Yi thread...

What kind of numbers do you expect Yao to be putting up in the new season? I imagine his PPG will drop slightly while his assists and rebounds will increase. Blocks should stay about the same.

Yao is in the prime of his career. Great players find a way to lift their game to another level. I feel Yao can put up these numbers 27 ppg 10rpg 2 bpg.

I think Yao's ppg may decrease this season, prolly get 24ppg, 10.5rpg, 2 bpg, 3apg

How many assists do you feel Yao can dish out per game? He's an excellent passer.

too many good players on the team, so i think he ppg will be in the low 20's, rpg will be about the same as last year, and about 2.5 apg.

I STRONGLY suspect Yao will average more than 2.5 assists.

So you're assuming that the Rockets will still average in the low 90's with the supposedly improve offense of Adelman and the new players. If Yao is good enough he will average around 27 ppg. It's not just about taking more shots but being more efficient. Yao isn't Kobe. He doesn't need to shot the ball 30-35 times a game. What I would like to see from Yao is an improvement in his FG% to around 55%.

I think the team will score an average near 100 ppg, but since Aldelman uses a team oriented offensive system, yao should average either the same as last year or maybe a tad less.

What people have got to understand it's not the OFFENSE or supporting cast. It comes down to the player and that player in question is Yao. Chris Webber was able to average these numbers in the Kings offense for a 4 year stretch:

99-00: 24.5
00-01: 27.1
01-02: 24.5
02-03: 23.0

The Kings had Stojakovic who average 20+, Bibby 16 ppg, Bobby Jackson 12+, Doug Christie 10+, Divac 10+. So even with all that fire power Webber was able to have a season where he average 27.1 ppg. There is absolutely NO reason why Yao can't do the same. I hope that's the mentality he takes. It's his time to dominate. The worst thing that could happen for him and the rockets is if he takes a passive approach and think that because there is all these talent around he can just sit back and not try and do as much. Like Hakeem said DOMINATE!!!!!!! Let the other players follow your actions. It's his time and his team.

People have also tend to overlook the positive effect of having better teammates. Yao may see less double teams, the defense could be stretch to cover the other players allowing him more space down low to operate. He may get more dunks and layups in the new offense. If Yao is aggressive I am certain he can average 27 ppg.
