Check out this article.

New assistant coach Jack Sikma said, "We talked about the pounding he takes game in and game out and to find ways to reduce that. He's still got to be a power player for us. His abilities on the low blocks cause a lot of consternation for opposing staffs. I know that firsthand. Maybe there are other ways for him to be effective

Wear and tear is a legitimate concern for all NBA players, especially for the pivots. Hopefully the new team can find ways to help Yao cope with the issue. If all out fails, hehe there's always the cheap way of addressing the problem..that is, to take the regular season off the way Shaq has done for the last 5 years or so. Play 56 games or somethig like that...though the ticketholders won't be too happy.

Sikma said he plans to work with Yao on the move known around the NBA as "the Jack Sikma." That move, an inside pivot to go from posting up to facing the basket, was part of Hakeem Olajuwon's work with Yao in two workouts after the season ended. Sikma also will work on another part of Olajuwon's lesson plan: balance.

"Yao needs to improve on his balance, and like (with) any big guy, the challenge, your length, is also your weapon," Sikma said.
I like Sikma already :!:

Sikma as a player had many of the same strength and weaknesses as Yao.

Strength: Tall, Excellent free throw shooter, accurate jumper, excellent passer.

Weakness: Speed and Jumping ability.

He'll be perfect.

Well for Yao's sake let's hope he achieves a lot more than Sikma did as a player.

Actually Sikma won a championship very early in his career, and he was a solid contributor.

once in a long while ESPN classics will show the Sonics when they won the championship in the late 70's. sikma wasn't a flashy player so i doubt he would be on youtube, but he did have that 1 signature drop back shot, ball released high over his head that nobody could block, including hakeem.
