Five more games, then the playoffs: "It's that time."

As always, the Rockets mimicked Jeff Van Gundy.

They are with a half-game of the Jazz with Utah heading to Golden State on Monday, with the Rockets playing the second half of a back-to-back in Seattle.

Both teams could lament losing home games that could have ended this doubt long before they finish the regular season against one another April 18. Instead, it's still a race.

The Rockets, however, did not want to look at it that way.

"We're not worrying about trying to catch Utah or how they're playing," Tracy McGrady said. "It's all about how we're playing individually and as a team. We're just trying to get better, man."

That's why these games matter.

They might determine where the first-round begins. They could make that regular-season finale even more interesting. But for the Rockets, after struggling so badly for three home games, the season's final five games are about playing well enough to win a playoff series no matter where it is held.

They had not looked anything like a playoff winner in the past week. But with a solid win in Sacramento and two more road games before returning home of the Hornets and Suns, the two opponents they have not beaten, the Rockets have a chance to pick up speed in time.

McGrady can make games like Sunday's seem routine, or at least to be expected. Yao can stretch his hot shooting over a longer game. The role players around him can become more consistent.

There is time, as long as the Rockets play these games as if they really matter. They do, no matter what they mean or don't mean in the standings.

As McGrady said later, "It's that time."

Eventually, the Kings might get that new arena they so desperately want. It will be filled with all the clubs and restaurants and hidden suites perfect to sip chardonnay before the game and at halftime, and if you miss a few minutes, well, the pregame duck is best when crispy.

They will lose a lot, too. Arco is still a gym. Fans are close to the court and when the game is going on, they are in their seats and into it. Other than those with the suites the old place does have, there is nowhere else to go. So fans come to the arena to get into the game. Even with this mediocre team, they remain into the game.

Sure it's the only game in town, but that might have something to do with the NBA's longest sellout streak, 351 games. Funny how basketball is still the biggest attraction at a basketball game. It is here, until the Kings move out and to a building filled with the usual distractions, and empty seats.

Tracy McGrady would have liked that triple double. It's meaningless and silly, one of those stats he said he no longer cares about. But he's never had one since joining the Rockets.

He got the 10 assists early, making up for a poor shooting start with his passing. He got his jumper to go in the second half and finished with his third 40-point game of the season. But with eight rebounds, he bobbled one out of bounds. With nine, he might have grabbed one late. They might have even corrected the stat when he slapped a rebound to Rafer Alston that was incorrectly credited to Alston.

Instead, the Rockets got a much-needed win. He came back from his sore back looking much stronger than when he went out. And it's just a stupid stat anyway, even though he really would like one.

Yao made two bad fouls in the begining of the third that really put him out of the action the 2nd half. He can;;t afford to pull that crap in playoffs.
