1. Play defense.
Luckily this is not a big problem with Rockets. There is a little bit problem to get the guards to play good defense, especially TMac. He can play good defense on Boozer, and such. Nuggets, on the other hand, had a season long issue to play defense, which is currently fixed.

2. Strong support for JVG from the front office. It will be only stupid not to do so. For however the coach has been unpopular, he has been focusing on basketball, which is the bottom line for any coach. From what I see, the management team is more focused on the business and marketing side. Including the incoming GM, who knows little about basketball. They gave the whole rein to JVG, without the whole hearted support.

This is the biggest hurdle to a championship.

Nuggets, however, has a coach who can communicate to both fans and players. And this coach has wonderful relationship with the front office.

3. Resting stars very well. They need the last 5 games of the regular season to get into rythym. 2 years ago, they used 7 games for the preparation, which proved costly as TMac ran out of gas too early.
As Tmac and Yao are resting now, this issue is resolved.

Now since Bonzi Wells is getting some play time, the only issue is number 2).

Yao isn't going into the playoffs in the best of shape, and he never had much energy to begin with. He can play well for 3 or 4 games. JVG will wear Yao out. :(

It's crazy for Yao trying so hard for both ends in the game. Yao should know which end he should conserve his energy in order to have a bigger positive impact in the game. Yao should slack off in defense. To ask a 7'6" 300 pounder to show in the top of key and run back to his man is too demanding. Conserve his energy for offensive production will help the Rockets more because this team's offense is totally on T-Mac and Yao. Yao needs to learn "how to slack off". Just give JVG the middle finger if JVG says anything on you.

I agree. Yao also practices way too much. And his FG% isn't even that high. Yao needs to relax more and stop being JVG's slave.

Yao's FG% is only a little around 50%. It's because Yao's not a true low post player. Most defense can easily push Yao out of the paint. I guess more than half of Yao's FGA is 7-12 feet jumper. Yao actually is a pseudo low post player. Yao's good but not dominant.

Whenever JVG starts to praise another coach, he is confident that he can beat that coach's team.

Now I am more interested in finding out who would be the second round foes for Rockets.

mmmmmmmmmm......let you try to shoot and score with 2 fingers on your right hand (shooting hand) bandaged together, and have players double or triple-team you, body check, bang, trip, and shovel you at your back, and see if you can score more than 50%......

Yao dares not step out of the paint when he is double teamed. This is because JVG told him not to. He should not have listened to JVG's crap because one of Yao's stengths is his shooting range from outside. In this regard he is much better than most other centers. Yao is still in a slump right now. He has to regain his stamina by playoff time and figure how to avoid stupid fouls.
