This is a latest interview of Erik Zhang of Team Yao.

He told the reporters a couple of things:-

  • Yao Ming will return to play Monday against Cleveland Cavaliers.
  • He will play with his new brace supporter, and will only play maximum 15 minutes.
  • It will take him about 3 weeks to be able to reclimatize and return to his MVP level performance prior to his injury.
What do you guys think ? Too Conservative ??

Just 15 mins?? I hope Yao could play more minutes so long as his physical condition could bear. Playing such little time would inevitably pull down his statistics......

Personal statistics should be the last thing on earth Yao Ming worries.............

After all, given Yao Ming is such a great team player, IMHO, he would worry about his personal stats the least. What is important is how he fares against his opponents, how the team readjusts with his return, how he readjusts to the new game plan/set plays, and how this all helps to get the win the team so desperately needs now.

Though Yao has never officially received MVP trophy, but he did play at MVP-level prior to his injury

The first few games is just about practicing Yao and the team together. Yao isn't being played to win games. Maybe after week 2, the game will be more focused on Yao, and after week 3, things should be about normal.

I never said he had received a MVP. I said his performance was MVP-like........

Every distinguished NBA basketball experts/writers agreed his performance prior to his injury (25.9 ppg/9.4 rpg/2.1 bpg) was the best in his 5-year NBA career, was MVP-like, , he received the Best Player of the Month Award in November, and he was a strong Top 3 candidates amongst Steve Nash running for MVP for 2 full months (No and Dec) before he was untimely injured.

as i read it, Pryuen never indicated Yao was ever an MVP,
and to me, never construed as won one.

It was "MVP level" as in "performed to a level equivalent to
an MVP".

I would think every year, there will be two to five players that
play at an "MVP level" to be considered valid candidates.

PS: Afraid i prepared the entry before knowing Pryuen had
filed his retort. .... :)
