Looks like Van Gundy is holding him out of the game.

Complete Rockets coverage Though the timing had seemed clear since Yao Ming was hurt Dec. 23, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy made the team's most definitive statement so far on Yao's chances of playing in the Feb. 18 All-Star Game, ruling Yao out.

"It's going to be a long time," Van Gundy said. "To put a timetable on it wouldn't be fair to him or to us. You won't see him there (in Las Vegas.)"

Yao is not scheduled to begin "active rehab," on-court workouts, until the All-Star weekend.

I thought it would be the best for Yao to heal completely. Otherwise, his knee would be in jeapordy in the future.

But Houston Chronicles had a note by some journalist that if Yao plays at all this year, he should play All Star. I thought that was quite unreasonable. And I definitely did not like that tone.

JVG made the right decision.

This isn't Van Gundy holding him out so much as there's no way he'll be prepared to play by then. Yao has multiple experts telling him 8 weeks minimum to get back to practice- which would be Feb. 17th- let alone the time it would take him to get into game shape, so he doesn't increase his chances of injuring something else.

That said, he should at least make an appearance, and be introduced.

He will get recognition for being voted in as a starter and possibly the #1 vote getter!
