Rox 99 - 75 2:58 remaining in the game. Spanoulis not playing too good so far, but better than JL3 who just wants to shoot the ball every time he touches it!

Everyone realizes that we are now only 1/2 game back of the Utah Jazz for 4th overall in the West. Oh yeah, and we are minus our best player. Let me repeat all that. We are almost 4th in the West minus our best player. Umm... Do we think that JVG might be a good coach now, or that this team is legit? Amazing what you can do with just a little real talent.

You still don't get it! Doesn't matter if we have a better record than Utah, if the playoffs started today, Phoenix, Dallas, Utah, and San Antonio would have homecourt advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs. The only way the Rox have homecourt advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs is that the Rox win the SW Division, which will not happen or they have a better overall record than San Antonio. Only 1 team that is not a Division Winner can have homecourt advantage in the 1st round. After the 1st round, the homecourt advantage is based on regular season record.

Ok fine, we are now only 3 games back of the Spurs. Without Yao. The argument still holds true. How many times in the last decade have we been this close to the Spurs!?
Regardless of homecourt we are still putting ourselves in a position to play Utah instead of San Antonio, who we won't beat in the playoffs. Winning is still important even if we don't get homecourt. We still will have a better matchup if we stay in the 5 spot.
You can't honestly tell me you thought we would do this well in light of the inevitable injuries to Mac and Yao. Everyone on this forum was screaming lottery as soon as Yao went down. Hell the damn Chinese don't even pay attention when he is out (got to love the support for the Rox... ). Everyone thought we were done, and here we are, only 3 games back of homecourt in the 1st round.

You are right, the Rox would have the homecourt advantage at the 5th seed if they had a better regular season record than the winner of the NW Division. This crap is really confusing but I think I got it now. Division winners are guaranteed a 1 - 4 seeding, with only 1 non-division winner able to have a better seeding than a division winner if they have a better regular season record. BUT, teams are awarded homecourt advantage based on the better regular season record of the two teams playing. This new format is going to really embarrass the Eastern Conference!
I did believe the Rox would still be in contention to make the playoffs, but when I heard Yao was going to be out the initial 6 weeks, I was just hoping the Rox would win 50% of their games until Yao returned. But when Mac miraculously game back with a relatively healthy back, I knew the Rox would do better than 50%. But I didn't think they would be this good where they still could beat San Antonio and LA without Yao. And now with Bonzi getting into shape and contributing, the Rox are going to be a beast once Yao returns and gets back to dominating like before. Even if the Rox remain the 5th seeded team, 1-4 seeded teams are going to be worried!

Yeah, but the opposite is correct too. They both didn't play, thats way they suck. Even Tmac needed a game or two to shake off the rust when he hadn't played for a while.
