Hi, John, welcome back!

And - phew!!! That was a close and nerve-wrecking game! I couldn't believe Yao could've missed two FT's in a row. But, all- in- all, it was an interesting game and fun to watch especially seeing Yao bumping chest with Luis after his dunking - and of couse for the win. I would have been disappointed big time though if the Spurs tied it up and went on to win the game.

Did you guys catch Landry's "goaltend"of Duncan when it was actually a block? This guy is very athletic, and can actually score. I can't wait to see him play more...

Hayes, Hayes, Hayes, Alston, Alston, Alston, Head, Head, Head. If we dont have these 3 "key" players, rox would not be and should not be in a situation like this now.
Battier knows that he should come off from bench, why can't they learn from him?

Alston should be the 3rd backup unit, and Head? a shooting guard now? Hayes is just ... no words for him, with these 4 key sabotage players on board as starters, rox wont go too far in playoff, sit them down on the bench is a great idea if Adelman wakes up.

Yao, Tmac, Scola, Landry and Brooks is the correct starters.

John, to address the point that you made in your journal about the number of shot attempts, if you have Yao friggin' Ming on your team, if he isn't leading the team in field goal attempts every single game, there's something very wrong with the team. I watched the game on NBA-TV, and I was frustrated on the many possessions that the Rockets raced down the court and jacked up (and missed) a jumper just as Yao got into position, thereby wasting the effort of a full-court sprint by Yao and forcing the big man to do it all over again. To his credit though, Yao doesn't seem to get frustrated by his lack of touches (because I know I'd be frustrated), and perhaps his having to carry less of the offensive burden is contributing to his ability to play so many minutes this season.

STILL, it would be very difficult to argue that this team is better right now without T-Mac than with him, if only because he frees up Yao from a perpetual double-team. I think that he was just rusty. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of his oft terrible shot selection, but the Rockets find ways to win when he's in the lineup. While I do think that he is stunting the growth of the Rockets' young backcourt players, growth does not equate to wins. The Rockets will win far more games with T-Mac in the lineup than without him.

With regard to flopping, while the Spurs may lead the league with Ginobili and Oberto leading the way, you have to admit that it's pretty funny to see the Rockets get a call thanks to Scola's own considerable flopping skills.

John,

Welcome back. What do you mean by you give credit to Idleman for playing the young guns? He is still starting the great Chuck Hayes who averages about 4 points per game and achieved a zero score sheet in this game. If the opposing teams cannot beat a team with the 2 non-scorers in Hayes and Battier, those teams should not complain about anything but themselves. Idleman is a slow learner. No credits for him, please.

To me, it doesn't matter if Hayes starts as much as how many minutes he gets. He only got 18 last night, whereas Scola had 21 and Landry had 12. I think the minutes for the young guns will continue to go up, although it doesn't help when Scola blew 2 assignments in a row on Duncan that resulted in layups. I give credit to Adelman mainly for playing Landry. I don't think anyone outside the team saw how ready he is to play now. Adelman could have continued to play Hayes with no one really knowing too much about Landry.
