I think the Rockets going to be great until playoff times. T-Mac ain't clutch, they are going to go fishing after the 1st round. Thats ok though.... the season takes a toll on the body, hence rest is good.

But what about Yao's turnovers in this game? Often during crunch time, the ball goes into his hands only to have it stripped from him, as happened in this game. I personally thought his turnovers blunted his "greatness" in this game to some extent. We know that Carroll Dawson had worked with Yao over the summer on cutting down turnovers, so let's hope Yao shows improvement in this area.

I know this is a Yao fan site, and actually no one is a bigger fan of Yao's than I. But it'd be good to have a balanced discussion of Yao with constructive criticism as well as praise.

The strip of Yao everyone is thinking about that occurred late in the game was a really, really good play by Derek Fisher, who is a very crafty veteran. Yao was moving to the basket, got the ball in his hands and was quickly putting up a shot, and Fisher stripped it. Sometimes you have to give the defender credit, just like giving Rafer credit for stripping the ball from Kobe at the end of the game. Yao was one of the main reasons why the Rockets won last night. When he's the reason they lose (which happens), believe me, I can criticize with the best of them.

Kaolin's right. We already have a passing point guard in Alston. When James is coming off the bench, I don't want him to pass the ball. I want him to friggin' shoot it.

The Lakers game was the perfect example. Our starters were terrible in the first quarter - it took two minutes for anyone to score a basket. Then James came in and suddenly our offense came back to life.

Ok...Ok....This is going to Be a great year for Yao & the rockets, but can we PLEASE make sure that Yao touches the ball at least every other trip down the court. He is the best shooter on the floor, and makes over 80% of his free throws. Many times last night he was in position to get the ball, but the guards did not get him the rock. The ball should go through Yao everytime just like the spurs do with duncan. Good Numbers for Yao last night.

Overall the Rockets played good. They had a rough start and a sluggish end. They need to be better at finishing off teams this year because I am tired of them letting the down team catch up all the time.

It's so great that the wait is finally over. Regardless how the Rockets played, I am just happy to be able to see Yao and the others play again. In response to Kai's comment on Mike James, I think that James is never to be used as a traditional point guard who runs the team. He is the perfect off-the-bench instant offense when the team needed it, and it's this role that lead him to the Championship. It's sad that Steve Francis had to sit on the bench, but until he understood what his role should be on this team, the current rotation is probably the best for the Rockets.

John I agree with most of your analysis. Except that of Mike James. I thought he played a terrible game. On one possesion, he was a fast break, and decided to pull up for a jumper (a 3 perhaps) and missed, instead of going for a layup. Another up, he drove to the basket but couldn't finish. On a play near the end of the game, he lost the ball bringing it down the court resulting in an easy two for the Lakers. And on many occasions, he decides not to pass Yao the ball. Rafer's not as good offensively, but at least he finds Yao. This is where I think Francis would be better than MJ. He can play better D, and finish better around the basket. I know you have a soft spot for MJ. But we have to use Francis at some point, cos he's got more game than Luther and MJ.

Few words for Yao, for Yao to be the greatest player (he's already great), he just need to watch his turnover in the nail-biting moment. Yao seems to do that quite often especially in this game against Kobe.

I started to get anxious when the free-flowing offense seemed to bypass Yao Ming sometimes you see Yao Ming was standing below the basket and nobody guarding him, I saw that few times with Battier, he choose to shot 3 points and missed instaed of passing it to yao Ming for easy 2 points. Alston sometimes did that too. I would not say Battier is the HERO in this game he wasted too many points tonite and also some bad decision. There is just no play maker in this team, if they keep on playing like this they will not make it past the first round of playoffs, I am sure.

Don't forget the part where Luke Walton made an own goal. That was hilarious - and ended up being the difference!

I'm not sure about Hayes's help D - I don't watch basketball enough, and even if I do I wouldn't know what to look out for. But his one-on-one defence is purportedly excellent, as offensive players have trouble trying to post him up because he's so strong.

Alston didn't have a great game, but I thought he did alright overall, mental miscues in the final minutes notwithstanding. At this point, he's our only playmaking PG option. Brooks is too raw, James is best as a spark off the bench, and the less said about Francis the better.
