Because it's the Special Olympics for those who are not wealthy, physically disadvantaged, and do not usually have special treatments and privileges accorded to them wherever they go like NBA players; giving out a fine like this is insensitive of the Rockets.

Rockets, it's time to share some of the limelights with those who have less than you are. Even though the fine amount is trivial and a matter of procedure, but its action is very symbolic.

Instead of taking this once-in-awhile opportunity to embrace other less privilged members of society and showing them your care (even symbolically), unfornately, Rockets decided to think of itself and itself alone. Shame on them......

Yao should be fined like any other player, however it is more important for him to be at the opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics World Games since he is Global Ambassidor.

Rules are rules. No matter what condition, expect serious life taking matters. If you don't follow the rule, a fine is reasonable i think. Of course it isn't fair for Yao, but that's just bad luck. Like a fine for parking over time. If you have a important meeting, and that's why you're late to get to the car, then you still get a fine. So i think it's reasonable.

First of all, Yao Ming is a multimillionaire... A couple thousand dollars to him is like 5 or 6 dollars to us. He is not going to lose any sleep due this fine. Yao Ming is doing a good deed for his country and it is far more meaningful to open up the special olympics in his hometown than to have a perfect attendance at the Rockets training camp. I mean we are not even talking about pre-season.... its only the f*cking 3 days of Rockets training camp. Yao had been working hard all summer to get himself ready for the NBA season, 3 days of relaxation will not get him out of shape. I do think that Rockets should fine Yao just because it shows that they are in charge here. This is just pocket change to Yao, so its not like he will need to find some food stamps after this.
