Yao vs. Lakers - 4/25/04

Yao gets hacked by Shaq in a loss to the Lakers 92-88 in Houston where they SELF DESTRUCTED to the Lakers in overtime after leading by four points with less than a minute and a half remaining in the game. Yao finished with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting. (Photo courtesy AP).

TUESDAY - 4/27/04 - A day after the Rockets blew Game 4 of their playoff series against the Lakers on Sunday, I still cannot believe they lost that game. Every Yao and Rocket fan probably saw it since it was such a big game that was nationally televised, so I may not need to go into detail like I normally do. But I can tell you the Rockets should be UP in this series 3-1 rather than being down 1-3.

If the Rockets lose Game 5 on Wednesday and are eliminated in the same manner they lost on Sunday -- by blowing it -- then I will be very compelled to do a Detailed Analysis on ALL the Rocket mistakes in those games that led to their demise. Having a written record of all those mistakes will serve as a constant reminder on where the Rockets need to improve during the off-season.
SUNDAY - 4/25/04 - I am so angry the Rockets lost 92-88 against the Lakers, I don't know if I'm going to do my usual report. The Rockets fought valiantly to get back into the game, put it into overtime, and take a four-point lead late in the game, but they fell apart both offensively and defensively and let the game get away in a 92-88 loss. This loss was the toughest of the season, with the Rockets facing elimination on Wednesday night down 3-1 in their playoff series.

There were just too many mistakes in this game to go through like I normally would do in my report. That fact, coupled with how upset I am, requires that I cool off for a little while. If this were a job or I was paid to do this, I would muddle through it. But since I voluntarily do this, I might just pass this time (which would be a first). We'll see if I cool off from this loss before Wednesday night's game.

However, before I sign-off for now, I am sick-and-tired of hearing about how much of a "warrior" Karl Malone is because he played with a torn jersey. GIVE ME A BREAK! It was so contrived that he kept his jersey on to show how "tough" he is (supposedly)! I can't believe the ABC announcers were making such a big deal out of it. Al Michaels and Doc Rivers made me want to barf! Their fawning over Malone just shows how much the media wants to push how "great" the Lakers are down everybody's throat just because they play in a large media market. Lost in all of this is the fact Malone's jersey was torn by Boki Nachbar pulling on it as he was falling to the court after Malone allegedly undercut him, not because it was torn in some fight. The league should make it a rule that you have to play with a regulation uniform, like how they make players tuck in their jerseys or make them change it if blood is on it.
