Yao vs. Clippers - 4/7/04

Elton (Brand) and The Rocket Man (Yao) face off Wednesday night in LA as the Rockets snapped a 5-game losing streak by beating the Clippers 102-79. Yao finished with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. For more photos from the game, click here. (Photo courtesy of AP).

WEDNESDAY, 4/7/04 - Okay, this is going to probably be the shortest Summary ever. I just completed one of my big projects at work, it's extremely late, and I've got a flight in a few hours. But I did catch some of the Rockets-Clippers game on Wednesday night, and it was nice to see the Rockets get their confidence back. They took a big lead early in the first quarter, and were never really threatened the rest of the way as they won 102-79 to hand the Clippers their 12th loss in a row.

I'm going to defer to the Houston Chronicle write-up for you to get your scoop. However, I can tell you I was able to watch Yao's play in the first quarter, and he was a mad man underneath the glass and guarding the rim. In just a few minutes, he had three emphatic blocks and two dunks, with one of the dunks being a powerful facial. He ended up with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in just 22 minutes of action.

My trip will keep me from being able to watch the next two games (vs. Denver on Friday, at Utah on Saturday) in detail, but I will do what I can to file some type of report. Of course, these next two games are huge. I thought just 1-2 weeks ago these games were not going to be that important and I could rest up before the Rockets first playoff series starts (just like the players were hoping). That didn't happen. Instead, the Nuggets and Jazz are breathing down the Rockets' necks for the 7th and 8th playoff spot. With 4 games remaining, the Rockets are 2 games up on both teams. Whoever drew up the schedule last year knew what they were doing! Can I get that person to be my stock broker?

It's still too close to call, but it's going to be intense finding out. Which Rockets team will show up? How each player performs in these games will be a good indicator of what kind of off-season moves the Rockets will make to get tougher.
